Question about prescription

Posting for traffic.

I have several tins of prescription formula for CMPA. My dd has been put onto a new milk now so these old tins aren't needed. Also have some premature baby milk given to me in error. All sealed and unopened. If I take them to a pharmacy will they take them back? If not I will bin them myself to save a trip but it seems a terrible waste when so many babies need them. Any advice appreciated.

You could ring the pharmacy and ask?
Given that they won't take any dispensed medication back except to bin it, I imagine they won't.
Maybe ask your HV if they can suggest what to do with it. I agree, it is a terrible waste. Some charities take unused medication as long as it is sealed and in date. They send it to war zones and refugee camps.

Pharmacy's will take all precriptions back. They will most likely be destroyed tho.

They would just advise you to dispose of them along with other household food waste.

They cannot reuse them - can you imagine being given second hand formula, with no guarantee that it was stored correctly and not tampered with before feeding it to your infant? It’s unthinkable.

I know it seems like a waste, but as long as you didn’t deliberately stockpile and over order, it’s not your fault.

Also to other parents in the same position - please don’t sell them on. Some parents, unfortunately, are driven to obtaining formula via prescription when it is not needed in order to sell it to make money, and is one of the things prescribers are ever so slightly wary of when initiating prescription formula. So best not to add to that.

What's funny?

Oh come on now, like you haven't thought to ask on FB or literally anywhere else on the internet if anyone wants these sealed and unopened tins of milk?

BridieConvert · 05/02/2023 12:19

There's a CMPA formula swap group on Facebook, someone will take them off your hands

KickingScreaming · 05/02/2023 12:20

List it on Olio, someone will need it, give it away for free this way. Simple. A good deed done.

borisesfridge · 05/02/2023 12:26

@DuplicateUserName well no I hadn't because I wasn't sure if it's ok to do that. I've had them for ages so not sure if they go out of date. Or what if someone took them from me and they made their kid ill or something? I wouldn't want it to come back on me. You're not meant to give prescriptions away to other people. I'm very sorry that I'm not an expert on such matters but just trying to do the right thing.

Exactly this.

Plus in the current climate some people might be so desperate for formula that they'd take any freebies regardless of if their dc actually need CMPA formula.
