I have a very aggressive form of skin cancer. Recently diagnosed. This was in hospital A.

I have Graves' disease and I haven't seen an endocrinologist for a while so I asked my dr on Monday to chase up the endocrinologist and see if I could get into a clinic so we could discuss surgery for it and medication etc. this is at Hospital B this letter included all the details about how we'd like to try for a baby and discussing our options etc.

I had a phone call from hospital A yesterday, asking me to clarify why my GP has sent a chasing up letter and then he read it out. Hospital B's letter that contains a lot of personal and sensitive information has been sent to hospital A. I called my GP and they weren't even aware they'd sent the letter to the wrong place.

Aibu to make a formal complaint? I want an apology for them sending my information to the wrong department and also for not even noticing it was wrong until I rang them to ask why they'd sent it. I know it's a mistake but it is a pretty big mistake.

This is after they dismissed my mole as a wart and only agreed to refer me to dermatology because of my 'anxiety' which was then diagnosed as cancer and I've got to have extensive surgery now. It's all just too much.

Yes complain. Sorry this has happened to you, all of it, it is really shit. Sending you an unmumsnetty hug. My friends lung cancer was also dismissed as ‘anxiety’ she has to fight them to take it off her notes!

Yes complain. 1) for not getting you a dermatology appointment sooner 2) for sending the letter to the wrong hospital, also check if they have documented anxiety on your medical record as a 'problem'. Ask for it to be removed if so. None of this is acceptable from a GP surgery. This should be flagged up to all staff involved as a learning event - to prevent it happening again. I am sorry that you are having to go through all of this.

I've decided I am going to complain formally. I work for the nhs and I'd want to be told if someone had a truly bad experience.
