Winter comfort food to cheer things up?

Blueysfamilyareperfect · 03/02/2023 12:13

Dd, 4, Dh and I seem to have been ill on and off for ages. Dd has been off school this week and it looks like we’re looking at another weekend indoors.
Planning to try and embrace it (nothing else can do 🤣) try to keep warm by the fire, under the duvets on the sofa, films and winter comfort food/meals…any ideas for dinner on Saturday & Sunday night?
Proper filling, delicious, winter comfort food?

Creamy chicken cobbler with mash

Short ribs if you can get them. Brown, slow cook with stout and onion and carrots and serve with mash. Amazing and so easy.

Baked potatoes with butter and cheese

Creamy tomato soup

Bake something- could be cake or maybe cheese scones or muffins to go with the soup

Popcorn

Hope you feel better soon

Toad in the hole. Sausage and batter cures everything.

Sausage and vegetable casserole made in the slow cooker
(Chop up 8 premium sausages into 1/3rds (scissors Grin) add spicy taco beans tin or tin of chopped tomatoes and rinsed tin of chickpeas or borlotti beans), 400ml chicken or vegetable stock, add vegetables like sweetcorn, peas, spinach or carrots (frozen will do) , herbs and spices / garlic to taste and bit of seasoning . Stir in well

Leave it on 4 hours on high or 6-9 hours in auto or low - keep an eye on to make sure it keeps some fluid and doesn't dry out (so you know quantities of fluid for time you want it cooking next time)

Serve it with either mash or pasta or rice or over a jacket potato

It's very hearty winter food

Love it most with asdas caramelised onion pork sausages as they have a beautiful flavour . I cook this in big batches in my slow cooker

Oh and grated cheese on top of jacket potato with baked beans in it put back in microwave to slightly Melt cheese is also a hearty winter supper if you've had bigger dinner earlier in day

We had this and it totally hit the spot:

But I used the leftover meat from a roast chicken, which was actually perfect

Dal and rice
Green lentils cooked with leeks, bacon, stock and a bit of creme fraiche at the end
Jacket potatoes (double cooked with cheese and veg if you're feeling fancy)
