Do I bring him to emergency Dept ?

He has a few years history of these GI problems but also had several anxiety.
His infant history includes dairy allergy/ eczema/ asthma which he grew out of.

He has a history of constipation, gastritis, diarrhoea, abdo distension and pain , constipation and now was faecally incontinent while walking yesterday.
He has also has had anaphylaxis twice due to nuts and has had adrenaline and steroids
The Dr has done bloods for coeliac disease but never an X-ray/ ultrasound or gastroscopy
Do I need to insist on these investigations at this stage .
He is presently at home
, missing more school, with vomiting and abdo pain with diarrhoea also .AIBU to bring him , was to g their time and his in a Friday afternoon or will I wait until Monday and see how he is?

Wow @Lilyhop how awful for you all. Your poor son!

It has been horrendous. He’s been left with so many issues since it happened in 2020. Frequent hospital admissions, had blood clots and was on blood thinning injections for a while. One emergency admission for a blood transfusion, frequent vomiting his actual poo. Became dairy intolerant- and all of this could have been avoided if he had actually had an x ray in 2018. 😥

This will completely out myself if anyone here follows my public fb blog. But if anyone would like to read the full story I would be happy to name my blog. I always try to share my story when anyone mentions worries about the bowel! And OP’s son really does need some tests!!

ValerieDoonican · 03/02/2023 16:23

Oh wow @Lilyhop that's awful. I'm so sorry. My dDad had a missed diagnosis and was harmed by it, but nothing like that💐 💐

Your poor, poor son. What a dreadful time for him (and therefore you. Absolutely horrible for you to have to witness him suffering so much).

Nothing useful to add, am afraid, just that I hope to goodness he can get effective treatment and relief as soon as is humanly possible.

@Lilyhop
How horrible for your family, too. I wish your boys a far easier time from now on.

No. He'd be very unwell if he had that. Sounds more old inflammatory bowel disease. Chrons or colitis. Don't demand anything. Ask nicely!

Please don't follow this advice OP. You have every right to demand his symptoms are fully investigated. Asking nicely will get you nowhere and I say this as a very softly spoken, polite person however I have worked in the NHS for 20 years and I've had crohns disease for 25 years. I know how the system works. You need to kick up a massive fuss. You need to fight for him. This has been going on long enough.

He needs a colonoscopy under anaesthetic ASAP. He needs a diagnosis and appropriate medication. Do not let them fob you off. Phone every single day.

MisschiefMaker · 03/02/2023 16:53

Poor boy needs a colonoscopy

Don't be afraid to push as hard as you can. @Heathcote294 was spot on with her advice.

Thank you 💐 he has unfortunately had to fight for his life 6 times in 14 years as he also has epilepsy and some of those seizures have been serious enough to have to ventilate him. And one left him with significant brain damage. His syndrome he was born with is extremely rare- 47 diagnosed worldwide. So life is a bit up and down but he is always smiling and happy bless him 😊

DoodlesMam · 04/02/2023 00:12

Hi please get him checked for coeliac.
