To think I could get the sack?

NC as sensitive

I do a job in a licensed field and I have not been fully granted permissions. It's a role I moved into with my employer from a different role in the company which I was authorised to do.

Now I may lose my license (due to failing some tests) in which case I'd want to go back to my old role but I'm worried it's no longer available as they've just recruited.

In which case would they have to put me back into the old department? I didn't sign a contract in the new one and I'm still under the old contract.

I'm also now off sick, which I'm worried will add to things. Does anyone know is it possible I could lose my job?

I agree asking your employer is the best option here. None of us will know if they’re planning on sacking you or not. It’s a legitimate question for you to ask what happens next.
Try to be positive and to have suggestions, do you have a plan to make sure you pass next time? Eg extra study hours, are there are specific topics you need more support with.
What would be your preferred way forward? Go back to your old job or stay in the new job with supervision?

The problem is that no one can answer your, very specific, question without knowing the tests, the industry and (possibly) the company size involved. As you dont want to specify, understandably, I agree that you need to discuss this with an employment lawyer and then HR. The lawyer will help you to nail down what your rights are in this case so that if their outsourced HR or your CD[s] try to bamboozle you, you have the facts to hand.

I am afraid that without specifics, MN cannot help you with this one.

I think that it is worth the money for an appointment.

You didn't sign a contract for the new role but did you receive a job description or covering letter explaining your new role? Did it change your salary? How long have you been doing the new role?
If it was a secondment to the new role then they should move you back to your original post.
If it was a lateral career move and you've twice failed the tests necessary for the position, then what happens next depends on how long you have been in the new role and what paperwork/emails/communication you received and agreed when you moved.
Are you in an union? You need advice and no-one here can help when you're being so vague.
