Energy disconnection?

Hi, I am posting for traffic as feeling very worried. I privately rent a small, “luxury” apartment building in London. I pay all my energy bills without issue…

However today, EON pinned a letter to the communal notice board stating the “landlord supply” is at risk of being disconnected soon and this may affect the tenants energy supply eg no access to lighting or appliances.

Is this accurate or a bit of a threat? Just finding it hard to see how they can disconnect the building’s supply when my bills have been paid. Is this legal?

the overall building management has changed hands a few times and the current owners are not very helpful, there’s been loads of issues raised and ignored. They’re very hands off.

Of course they can.

That’s terrible. Bloody building management not paying their own bills 🙄

The landlord supply will power e.g. hall lights and fire alarm. Not your flat.

Send a copy to your management company. Call the energy company and give them the contact details of your property manager.

Thanks, have done that. The energy company’s phone line is closed for the day now.

Good luck - the freeholder will be responsible for the common areas e.g. hallways and is required to have emergency lighting and fire alarms in place.

So when contacting the management company it might be worth mentioning you're worried about fire safety if the landlord supply is disconnected as this would presumably cause the fire alarm system to power down... that might give them the kick up the ass they need!
