Nursery left DS in vom-covered clothes.

Got a call from nursery to say DS (non-verbal, autistic) had projectile vomited.
Was wfh so got there in 5 mins.

When I arrived he was happily playing in the sand and the staff were cleaning the book area where he'd been sick.

I noticed he had a small smear of sick next to his mouth so had to ask staff for a wipe to clean it.

They'd changed his top, so clearly been into his bag but as I put him in the car I realised they hadn't changed his trousers, socks or removed his shoes - all of which had vomit on them (and not a small amount, it was crotch to ankle).

There is a full change of clothes in his bag at all times - right down to a vest, as he has a habit of getting soaked at the water tray - so no excuse for not changing IMHO.

This isn't the first time I've had issues. We caught them out not changing his nappy all day (and lying about it - they didn't know we'd marked them for proof after suspecting for a while)

WIBU to bring it up with the manager, or is it just one of those things?

I would have thought the last thing you want a child playing with just after being sick is sand. Keep them to toys that can then be washed, surely!

I was thinking the same

If sick again that's all the sand to be chucked

As others said you noticed a small trace on face but not over his clothes

I get you want him moved but equally you aren't that bothered as as have left him there as you work and the social interaction is good for him

Annoying if longer but you were there in 5 mins so they likely barely had time

amibeingsilly1 · 02/02/2023 16:13

To achieve all that in 5 minutes with a non-verbal autistic toddler/little one is actually quite impressive.

ImperioMarch · 02/02/2023 16:17

@Trinity65 nappies are considered a reasonable adjustment, due to his autism. His paediatrician advised us to wait as he is chronic withholder.

You were there within 5 minutes! Cleaning an area that other kids could touch took priority, I'd imagine

Yeah, I though that had the potential to be a bit grim.

Why does everyone on here ‘projectile’ vomit? If it truly had been projectile vomiting it would have landed a couple of feet away. Not over the child. Still, I suppose it adds to the drama.

That's a point, if it landed on his own legs it wasn't projected very far..

FrownedUpon · 02/02/2023 16:26

YABU. It was 5 minutes & you hadn’t noticed yourself at first. Poor staff probably didn’t want to be dealing with projectile vomit. Perhaps you could have thanked them.

RTFT people. Acknowledged I WBU with view coloured by nappy incident.

To answer another question- after the nappy we looked to pull him out but there are literally no other places available in our town - he's been on the waiting lists since last October.

We both need to work to keep a roof over our heads.

So for now I am settling for marking the nappies to make sure he's changed.

Maybe he had already played with it that day so it needs throwing anyway.

What about childminders?
