AIBU or going crazy and in the wrong? We had some electric works done by a local company. Had some wall lights added and then the switch for which was also connected to the ceiling light in that room moved to a different location. After this was done, the light was super dim and flickering. The light was working completely fine before and stopped working properly following their works. Spoke to the electrician who said it was the light fixture that was the issue but I explained it had worked before so it should work now. He said that I needn’t worry as he will fix it the next time he comes ( we had another light that needed to be installed by them too). So they came last week and I reminded him we still didn’t have a working ceiling light and could he fix it as promised during his last visit as there was no light in that room. He fixed it and replaced the light fixture with a standard one - took them about 40 mins or so to complete so I suspect it was more than just a “faulty” light fitting he had initially blamed. On another note he couldn’t actually fit the light fitting he originally came for as it was going to be a lot more disruptive than he originally told us. It would require carpets being pulled up when he originally said it would be one floorboard. Yesterday, I get an invoice for £150! It stated it was an emergency call out even though it wasn’t. £150 for an issue that wasn’t there before he had touched it. I’ve told them I’m not paying as it was essentially working fine before they started their work and they didn’t explain it would cost us extra - I believe he is trying to make money from us as he wasn’t able to get paid for the other light fitting he was supposed to install. He also mentioned that he had spent time lifting floorboards and implied that was too was chargeable. AIBU in refusing to pay?

He came round in the basis that he was putting right faulty work. At no point did you treat it as an emergency - although it was fairly urgent - or discuss / agree a cost for this. No. I would not pay. It is not additional work - it is the rectifying of previous faulty work.

Thanks @LimeTwists I feel like he’s trying to scam us as he’s only ever dealt with me as DH busy with work. Don’t know if he thinks it’s easier because I’m a woman and I’d just give into all the mansplaining. DH thinks this company probably try their luck like this all the time. I’m ready for him to take us to court if he wishes (implied he would)! I have a clear audit trail of emails and messages and nowhere did he quote for this work to be done. Was very to quick to quote up for other work so strange he left this one out if he thought is was “chargeable”

I agree with this.

If he wanted £150 he should have discussed that with you before doing the work.

He sounds shit.

@EzzieM thank you. I know I shouldn’t get stressed over this but I just don’t know what he is capable of. He knows where we live! Probably overthinking but still can’t trust people these days especially when they pull a fast one like this
