To ask if anyone else feels that their immune system has gone to pot this autumn / winter?

I’m guessing it’s down to covid as I got that in September and since then I’ve been on and off with colds, coughs etc. I think im on my fourth illness since September when I’d usually get a cold or cough maybe once a year or less.

I take a vitamin every day and am upping my fruit, veg and exercise but just want to stop feeling unwell so regularly. Anyone else in the same boat?

Yes. I used to have the constitution of an ox, basically only got ill extremely rarely. I had Covid a year ago and this past year I've been more ill than I have previously. I currently have a cough that I've had on/off since Christmas; I thought I was just getting over it and now it's back with a vengeance.

TheGoogleMum · 01/02/2023 17:03

Yes i had a nasty respiratory infection for ages, felt better for a few weeks and now have a nasty respiratory infection again.
I'm pregnant so that might not be helping my immune system. I've never had so much time off work sick, I'm lucky I am pregnant so they aren't allowed to hold it against me to be honest. Not pregnancy related illness even

Sunshineismyfriend · 01/02/2023 17:03

I know sleep will help but each night I can’t get to sleep, or keep waking up through coughing. Wondering if it’s developing into a chest infection now. Just want to feel healthy again. My eldest has covid at the same time and he is the same as me. Sorry you’re feeling the same.

I was doing ok until this week and now I've got a horrible cold!

Mayalinaballerina · 01/02/2023 17:10

Same. I used to work with the public and was rarely ill. Now a SAHM and since I had Covid a year ago, I've been ill almost non stop over both winters.
I also look visibly different in photos before Covid - like people going grey overnight, I aged a lot and very quickly from having Covid.

stargirl1701 · 01/02/2023 17:24

Yes. I caught COVID for the first time in Oct 22 and since then every cold has lasted 3 weeks. I assume my immune system has been impaired by COVID.

Tsuipen · 01/02/2023 17:26

I feel exactly the same. Had Covid for the second time in Jan 22 and have seemed to pick up loads since then. Have had an awful fluey bug these past two weeks.

Grannyolive · 01/02/2023 17:50

The reason people are getting sick is the convid vaccine. It’s completely ruined peoples immune system. The only people getting cold after cold after cold are the triple vaccinated.

Maybe. I’ve had my vaccines and the booster so could be true but didn’t vaccinate my kids and my eldest keeps getting cold / cough after cold / cough too. Weirdly my other child who has a chronic health condition seems fine but hasn’t had covid as far as I’m aware.

Where exactly is your evidence for this?

DH and I have both been jabbed 4 times (patient facing healthcare roles). We've both had covid at least once and we both suspect we've had it more than that but it's not shown up in testing.

I've been absolutely fine all winter; one very slight sniffle.

DH has had a cold he's not quite got over off and on all winter. His immune system has always been a bit weaker than mine.

Not true for us two, neither have caught covid and not had a cold since over a year ago, no doubt one’s around the corner as I’ve written this 😁

ghostyslovesheets · 01/02/2023 18:28

nothing to do with the vaccine - probably more to do with us having reduced exposure to bugs during lockdown etc

I've had a cold since end of Dec - comes and goes and when it comes it's pretty rough - now I have some sort of virus making me dizzy and shaky - gave up battling on yesterday and came home from work - spent today in bed. Funnily enough it's only the second day I have had off sick for over 18 months - even worked through my second bout of Covid

reluctantbrit · 01/02/2023 18:28

We are quite good here. We all had Covid twice, last time in February 2022 and we managed so far without anything major.

And DD is in a busy and large secondary and I travel on a train 3x a week.

We are all jabbed (DH and I have four, DD as a teen only 2) and we all had flu jabs as well.

Eurydice84 · 01/02/2023 18:31

Yep. Pneumonia followed by Covid followed by a sinus infection. Back to the GP tomorrow.

mamabear715 · 01/02/2023 18:31

Doing ok up to now (fingers crossed) but I still wear a mask when I go anywhere crowded. This week, England seems to be shut due to strikes, so I don't suppose I'll be going anywhere..

Is that you, Andrew Bridgen?

NewFriday · 01/02/2023 18:32

Fingers cross I'm not tempting fate 😆 but I've used Vicks First Defence morning and evening every day since September and I haven't had anything.

I was worried because I work in school and was catching everything going, having being run down after a series of life disasters events, but I haven't had anything since I started using it. I've woken with a bit of a sore throat a couple of times but it's never come to anything.

Namechangedforthis234 · 01/02/2023 18:32

I'm ok this year but this was me last year. My child was in reception and brought home covid right at the start of September and from then on it was one thing after another. I got really offended at a family member telling me I needed to deep clean my home as we all kept getting ill but it was the bloody school! Not my house.

HiddenGiraffes · 01/02/2023 18:32

It predates this winter but this winter has been bad. It's relentless and very depressing

Grannyolive · 01/02/2023 18:32

AuntyManelandPippin.

Do your own research. The number of people, lots of young people suddenly dying from strokes and heart problems. Have you seen the young fit sportsmen collapsing with Myocarditis. No doubt they’re all vaccinated.

And why couldn’t you see a Doctor for months, unless it was to get the covid jab (which they were paid £15 a shot).

That was rude of them. Although I’m off work tomorrow and thinking I may open all the windows and really air the place out. If I’ve the energy I might also go round and disinfect the door handles and light switches etc as haven’t done that for a bit. Actually I may try and drum up the energy to do that tonight!

Yep, lots and lots of bugs here.

Got covid in November for the second time and have been pretty much stuck in bed ever since. I'm now on my 5th 'lurgy' since November. Same kind of non descript symptoms of sore throats, swollen glands, aching, headaches.

Nonsense about the jabs, though. I only had 2 and they didn't affect me. My daughter hasn't had a single vaccine, and she's been as poorly as I have.

Ludo19 · 01/02/2023 18:51

Never been vaccinated. Never had covid.......I'm not saying the vaccine causes it. Maybe I've been lucky? I think lockdown hit hard and we weren't exposed to the bugs we normally were? I don't know but I'll never force my opinion or wish an opinion forced on me.

Delatron · 01/02/2023 18:54

I constantly feel like I’m fighting something off. So have a week of feeling good then feel lethargic, resting heart rate goes up, feel a bit achy. Then it passes. Been like this since December. Very frustrating.

Different theories as to why. I have never been so well as in lockdown. Normally adults get a few colds per year (and flu does the rounds) so we weren’t exposed to this and as a population our immunity to general colds/flu is diminished. There definitely seems to be more viruses flying around (after being suppressed?). My doctor friend firmly believes in this theory.

There’s also the argument that Covid has affected our immune systems. Which may be the case for some. Similar to how having flu/glandular fever can make you run down though and prone to other illnesses.
Just like some people develop long Covid or autoimmune issues.
Others will be unaffected. So it really is complicated.
