My child eats all the time

Hello everyone, I was wondering If other parents had similar situations. My baby boy is going to be 15months in 2 weeks and he doesn't stop eating. He is not fat yet. But, I think he will be soon. He was born 2,600kg and is now 10kg. Normal for his age I guess? He doesn't put weight though and I was concerned at some point about his height and weight. Whatever people eat in the house he has to taste it and people have to hide now to be able to eat. He cries a lot if he is not given food. I always give him and was wondering how to stop that. Thank you

He's 15 months - he's growing and learning new things every day. Make sure that the food he has is protein heavy and has good nutrients and let him eat if he's hungry.

Get him tested for Prada Willi. Unlikely, but you never know.

What do you actually mean by doesn’t stop eating? A lot of toddlers would happily graze constantly on snack food in favour of eating proper meals if given the opportunity. That’s a bit different to eating a really good portion of a healthy meal and then crying he’s hungry 10 minutes later.

Also 10kg doesn’t seem massive, has he been following the same percentile curve for a while and is that roughly in line with his height percentile?

He will have breakfast in the morning, lunch, dinner and sleeping cereals before bed. He also eats biscuits, fruits and anything else I eat. He is always asking for food.

My daughter is 14 months and she'd eat all day if I put it in front of her. She's a little dot of a thing. If you check out a meal plan for toddlers on one of those baby sites you'll see there is a lot on there. Three of four meals and snacks, definitely much more than I would consume in a day. Is he grazing or actually eating all that's put in front of him?

My DS was always a good eater. I let him eat. Sometimes 4 meals a day and lots of fruit. As long as it wasn't rubbish I would feed your baby.

My DS still eats well as an adult and apart from when he was 9 months old he's never been fat.

I am not sure. He wasn't like a big eater before

Just read your update. Totally normal. My daughter eats 3 meals plus several snacks a day, she's never refused food even when she's not well. It's a lot but they are growing at an incredible rate.

CrunchyPancakes · 01/02/2023 15:17

Toddlers rough guide is to have 4 meals plus two snacks. So if he's at a normal weight I wouldn't worry about it.

Zamummy · 01/02/2023 15:17

He is around 73cm I think. Is it short for his age?
I am 165cm = 5"5 and father 192cm = 6"2

What are your portion sizes like for meals? It's possible he isnt full but tbh he is probably just curious and wants to be involved. I could hardly get mine to try anything new at that age so it's a blessing in some ways

Zamummy · 01/02/2023 15:19

My mum thinks is a lot of food and doesn't really give him much when I am not around. She thinks I over feed him

Three meals and two snacks a day is perfectly normal.

Please don't get offended but what's your relationship like with food? What you've said seems perfectly normal to me so I wonder whether your association with food might affect your views of your toddlers.

What is he like at nursery? Could he just be looking to eat out of boredom?
