Has anyone here ever challenged a speeding fine? What do you think of this?

Got letter today asking for confirmation of driver for offence of doing 36 in a 30 mph area.

It was only 2 days ago, the police van sometimes lurks on a particular spot beside the lane as you enter the next village to ours. The van's easy to see from a distance and i remember seeing it and thinking - oh there's the police van. The lane is national speed limit (60 for rural road) and I was already slowing down for the village (i don't go over 45 ish on this stretch as it's bumpy) but glanced at my speed to double check and made sure i went into the village and past the van at about 25/28pmh.

So - got this letter and couldn't understand it. Gone on the police website to check photos and the photo is taken pointing up the lane, with me driving towards the camera, and in the foreground is the 30mph sign and i'm still 10/15 meters away from it. Slowing down.

... i mean, i would have been doing under 30 as i past the sign., and then the van.

What do you think? Should i challenge it?

The google street view is so old (2009) i don't think it has the same signs. The 2009 pic i posted of the whole road - i can see there is a sign on the right further down the road, but the one on the left in the pic of me isn't there

I'm sure of which way i was going when it was taken because of the time. I was taking DD to dance class.

I'll sign the form and say i'm the driver and then tomorrow take a mosey down there and have a look. I know there is a bit of road which has a 30 sign well before the village (no obvious reason - just fields) and then a black and white (NSL) sign and then 30 again.

I feel i'm going to end up doing this online course for sure.

My DH had to do one about 6 months ago. They were all online, no choice given. Much easier tbh.

Ahhhh, I thought it was a Gateway sign because of the size of it, but on a second look, perhaps it’s perspective tricking me. The sign is close and the car is far away 😁

I agree! My car tells me what speed the road is by using the front camera and while it’s accurate most of the time - it isn’t perfect!

My car reads the road signs and tells me the speed limits, Google maps does the same but sometimes they're both wrong! Don't rely on them.

Are you sure there was no choice? They do require a certain level of tech that would exclude some people.
