Mumsnet moral highground

Mumsnet is annoying me today!! It seems lately there's loads of people bleating on and taking the moral highground, acting all superior like they are the only ones who know what's right and wrong and they are the moral guardians of this world we all inhabit.

Eg.. there's a post on here about someone who has never been caught for speeding. They have been speeding once and now sound really worried about it. A kind thing to do would be to say 'dont worry, it'll be a fine, you won't do it again, don't stress" but loads of people just hammering the OP for their bad driving. I'm sorry but I don't believe anyone who claims they have never been over the speed limit ever, unless you practically never drive. We r all human and all make mistakes.

Another thread where the OP thinks dog owners should only walk their dog off lead if they hire their own field because that's what they do and they are the only perfect person allowed to have a dog..

Loads of other examples.

We r all human. All struggling along navigating this world in our own way, as best we can. Can all the people who think they r so superior please just bugger off!

Sorry, rant over.

Hard hat sufficiently in place ....

So, to summarise, you have the moral high ground over people who think they have the moral high ground?Wink

BogRollBOGOF · 01/02/2023 12:13

T'was ever thus!

Anonymous forums are just the place for anonymous people to pontificate. They can do this because no one knows them in real life with all their own faults and failings.

We would all like to be perfect, but the human condition ensures we are not. That doesn't stop people from pretending that they are and simulataneously judging others.

Greatly · 01/02/2023 12:16

Most of it's complete bollocks, made up by people who just like the idea of being a perfect person on the internet, or are having a bad day, or are projecting hugely.

I've really noticed the amount of who say they are examiners/solicitors/building contractors/experts then self-importantly spout completely rubbish advice.

TheBigWangTheory · 01/02/2023 12:17

We all have our own moral high ground. We all think we're better than people who do things we think are wrong. You do, OP.

And do sod off with the #bekind bollocks. I don't want to.

ReneBumsWombats · 01/02/2023 12:17

Mumsnet has always been highly moralistic and sanctimonious.

However, dangerous and illegal driving actually is a moral issue and that OP's only concern about doing 20 mph over was that she might get caught. Why should people tell her it's OK when it's not and that she won't do it again when she probably will until she has some kind of consequence for it?

Minfilia · 01/02/2023 12:17

MN is full of keyboard warriors. Always has been. Nobody would dare to say to anyone’s face some of the stuff they spout on here.

Also side note but I wonder if the OP was caught by the same speed cam I (possibly) was this week when the sneaky fuckers were hidden behind an HGV just before where the road changes from a 30 to a 60… they’ll have made a sodding fortune that day! (And no, I don’t think it makes me a terrible driver for driving at 34 when the road is about to change to a 60 within three seconds…)

araiwa · 01/02/2023 12:19

Driving at 31mph in a 30 zone will always kill a child. How can you not know that?

CrocodileShoooooesCrocodileShoes · 01/02/2023 12:23

In all fairness people do post on here for judgement about their situations.

There are also plenty of people on here who paint a picture of a perfect life and enjoy making others feel like crap to make them feel better about the reality of their situations.

Take 90% of what you read on here with a massive pinch of salt.

There is plenty of help and kindness on here too, but I don't think every poster has to be kind about every situation.

I haven't seen the speeding thread, but that's not something I would be especially nice about, it is pretty stupid and dangerous behaviour.

BlusteryLake · 01/02/2023 12:24

Equally though, there are a fair number of people on MN seeking validation for their crappy behaviour ("don't worry OP we have all driven at twice the speed limit" err...no we haven't).

What about 80 in a 60?

Yep, this poster was driving at 80 in a 60, in the dark.

The moral high ground available for occupation above that is pretty expansive.

SmudgeButt · 01/02/2023 12:48

Can I just point out that my moral high ground is so superiour to yours I can't even see you from here??

If it helps at all I think you should have permission to mentally slap anyone who gets too puffed up.

And didn't notice the police car behind her.
