Immunisations

Ds just had his 1 year immunisations, I wasn't aware that it would be 4 injections all together in one day, maybe that's my own fault for not researching it or asking beforehand how many they'd be. But is it just me, or shouldn't they have split the vaccines in two perhaps two days? I feel like 4 vaccines for a small child at the same time is crazy?

heck, i wouldn't want 4 in one go, let alone a 1 year old.

It's a bit unpleasant for the child, but the vaccines don't interact. And once they're done, they won't remember it at all. My daughter had hers at 2 years because her dad was blocking them and she was not too happy about it. With a smaller baby you give them a cuddle and they get over it quickly. You can put emla cream on beforehand if you want as well.

Personally I think it’s worse to take them twice.

Sirzy · 31/01/2023 16:35

It’s safe, and it’s better for the child to have it in one go rather than multiple trips.

it probably also keeps uptake up rather than asking parents to do multiple trips.

It's quickly done. Not fun, but it's about 1min that isn't fun. Bring a treat for after and lots of cuddles. Would be way worse to have to bring them back soon after when they know what will happen.

Very true, they remember!

i suppose you're right, better to get it over with at once than have it spread out over days and have him suffer more than once!

just never nice, especially with having them cry when you turn them over for the second round on the other leg. poor angels!

LoveisLoveis, how was your 2 year old after the vaccines? Did she get a fever the next day or a week or so later? I am asking because we are in a similar situation. My little one is also 2 and she is having her immunisations tomorrow.

Many thanks in advance.

Aw, that is a shame - my daughter got both legs at the same time I’m sure!

Sidge · 31/01/2023 16:46

We used to give them in 2 lots at 12 and 13 months.

It was much worse. So much better now, just get it down and that’s it for 2+ years.

Yes it’s awful giving them 4 but it gets it all done, there’s no reason not to have them all together and they don’t remember in the long term!

Sidge · 31/01/2023 16:47

*get it done

Glittertwins · 31/01/2023 16:48

@WineDup - mine both had the jabs at the same time in each leg. The nurses were great - gets it over and done with before they realise what's going on.

cptartapp · 31/01/2023 16:53

I give these. I've only once had a mum allow me to give only two (and I made her choose which two), and the first thing she said when she returned a week later was that she wished she'd had them all done in one go. Twice the upset, twice the tears.
