Yep none at all. Gave up the wine, had nothing but healthy meals, no sugar or junk and walked to work for a whole month and the scale hasn't moved.
Feeling very discouraged at this point, especially as dh has lost several lbs and has so much more energy even though he's cheated by eating up the Christmas treats I was too strong willed to touch.

It's about half an hour each way to work and I'm also walking 10 mins each way for the school run.

OP having skinny limbs and a protruding belly can be a sign of ovarian cancer along with feeling bloated.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/ovarian-cancer/#overview

I would very much recommend going to the GP to rule out anything medical that might be causing this.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 31/01/2023 17:39

you are a healthy weight not even remotely borderline but right in the middle, however you do not feel healthy so I would suggest this is not so much a weight issue as a health gut disgestive system problem.
no diet can direct weight loss to one part of the body, ie your tummy. The body shape changes as we get older , you could be peri menopausal at 39 so maybe see a Dr.

megletthesecond · 31/01/2023 17:40

Drink more water. Coffee only won't do you any good at all.

And I second the suggestion to see your GP rule out anything sinister going on with your stomach.

You've had a good start to the year, keep it up!

NotAMartyr · 31/01/2023 17:43

I think you are not eating enough at breakfast and lunch and then unintentionally eating too many calories at dinner. Maybe your bigger meal at lunch. I am no expert though.

Riu · 31/01/2023 17:44

I think it is because you are not overweight. It is so difficult to lose it when you are already at a healthy weight.

AutumnLeaves5 · 31/01/2023 17:46

Coffee and fruit for lunch and a very healthy evening meal…if anything I’d say you’re not eating enough! The body needs protein, fat and carbs to operate and cut too many calories and you’ll go into essentially starvation mode where the body slows down the metabolism and tries to conserve fat for as long as possible….this also send hormones all over the place.

See a doctor for your bloating and then look into a nutritionist to find you a balanced and sustainable diet. If nothing else, have a go at tracking your calories and make sure you’re getting enough to function.

I struggled to lose weight after I hit my 30’s. Calorie counting and a bit of exercise had me loosing nearly a stone in a month when I was 20.

The same tricks didn’t work for me after I had a baby, unless I practically starved myself. The only thing that has worked is low carb (which works out even better because I love Mayo, cheese and rich food etc) and eating between 12am-7pm. Managed to lose a stone in about 2 months. Still have a few glasses of dry wine at the weekend or a gin and tonic.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 31/01/2023 17:51

Bear in mind that food has to go somewhere. Everyone is slightly rounder in the tummy after a meal, except it’s much more obviously as a generally slim person.

I would see your GP to rule out anything, but then add some strength and toning work into your routine. It’s probably not weight you need to lose, but muscle tone you need to gain.

Annasgirl · 31/01/2023 17:53

I’m the same size as you OP and have the bloating. I gave up all grain in October to try to sort my IBS. I still have some IBS but all of the bloating is gone! It is amazing. For the first time in my life I have a flat stomach. Even as a child I had a ‘pudgy tummy’ according to my mum 🙄, and post DC it was worse. But nothing I tried worked - until this.

I tried it after reading Grain Brain, which was recommended on here for someone with IBS.

It is hard to begin with, but once you get into the new eating habit, it is easy. No calorie counting- and I also lost some bloating at the top of my thighs. I was astounded at how much grain I ate every day - every single meal.

simbobs · 31/01/2023 17:53

Is it possible that your issue is more to do with lax core muscles? I agree with others that you are not eating enough, in which case your body will not allow weight loss. Try probiotics to improve your gut microflora, and targeted exercises to strengthen your stomach muscles.

Thank you I will look into that

I have been dieting seriously for nearly a year and have lost around four stone. I eat around 1,100 cals a day. Whilst I have shown a steady loss of around 1 - 2 Ibs a week for the past three weeks the scales have not moved at all. I think I am in a plateau which is very disappointing and disheartening, but I won’t give up.

I think you are making what sounds like the right choices and the scales WILL eventually move. have found it very helpful to write down everything I eat. I also gave up wine in the evening which was growing to be a habit! I allow myself a drink or two on a night out, but I rarely go out!

keep at it, it’s worth it. I was nearly a size 24 but can now get into a size 16 and my self esteem has risen so much. I have at least another stone to lose. Like you I have skinny arms and legs and a horrible blobby tummy which I long to lose, but which seems determined to stay put. Apparently visceral fat on the abdomen is very hard to lose.

MaverickGooseGoose · 31/01/2023 18:17

Calories in v calories out, taking a'bit
From the pot' could be pushing you massively over.

I'm fat, I know why, when I focus I lose weight.

Are you peri / meno?

PureBlackVoid · 31/01/2023 18:18

Start with logging your calories on my fitness pal. It’s not fool proof, and it can take a bit to get your head around some stuff and to remember to weigh raw ingredients, but it is amazing how much you can misjudge portion sizes (for me, especially cheese or pasta 😳). I remember thinking I was having a ‘healthy’ cheese salad sandwich that turned out to be over 600 calories, because I was using multi-seed bread that turned out to be about 160odd calories per slice. Add in the misjudged cheese amount, mayo etc.

At the same time, you will have a diary of what you eat and when. If there is something you don’t tolerate well, it’s much easier to spot when you can scroll back through meals/recipes.

Having acidic fruits on an empty stomach can make me feel uncomfortable and bloated. It also sounds like you’re not eating a proper meal until evening time, which will make you feel shit overall. I skip breakfast too, as I can’t eat first thing but if I also have a late or small lunch I’m feeling grumpy, fuzzy, headaches etc but I don’t actually feel hunger. It took me a while to figure out it’s because of lack of food during the day.

It's about half an hour each way to work and I'm also walking 10 mins each way for the school run.

I know you might think it is, but that’s not a lot of exercise. If you ran one direction you could double or triple the benefit.

I walk to work just less than that, do Pilates for toning, with 40km running each week. I don’t eat that much or I put on weight! It’s surprising how little food is really needed.

Would C25K be viable?

wincarwoo · 31/01/2023 18:56

Try upping your protein and dropping your carbs.

Redraddisho27 · 31/01/2023 19:03

Sounds like you are liking fibre

queenrollo · 31/01/2023 19:35

I'm assuming you have children? Have you been checked for diastasis? I'm 5ft3 and looked several months pregnant by the end of the day too. I had some separation and I did MUTU (but you can find other exercises for correcting it on YouTube) and it really helped keep the worst of the bloat belly at bay.
Now i'm perimenopausal i'm pudgy round the middle because of my hormones affecting my weight, and quite frankly I could eat better and exercise more.
But ruling diastasis in/out would also be a good idea.

(and i'm currently just over 9st but I only know this from a recent medical appointment, I am more bothered about how I feel and look than an actual number on a scale)

PurpleFlower1983 · 31/01/2023 19:42

If you have a calorie deficit you will lose weight. You need to look at your calorie intake.

DecayedStrumpet · 31/01/2023 20:30

Like Lavenderforthebees says, the bloating and loss of appetite are a bit worrying, you should get that checked out by the GP. Even a large cyst could be causing you problems?

AyeCarrumba · 31/01/2023 21:56

You will be sleeping better. You will be more hydrated. You will have saved money. You will look less tired. You will make better decisions. You will be at less risk of certain life threatening conditions. It's not just about the weight is it?!

Reinventinganna · 31/01/2023 22:16

Are you on any medication?

HareAndBear · 01/02/2023 15:03

Have you tried lactose free for a bit?

I have these skinny arms and legs, no boobs or bum but then I have this awful protruding belly which makes me look pregnant especially after meals.

Sorry, didn’t read who thread, but to this:
Do you stress a lot? Or anxiety?
Stress can stop you from loosing weight and the fat stays around your belly.

Also, if you are skinny in other places, is there really that much weight to loose, wouldn’t this ve more about toning?

Again, read aboit stress and belly fat.
