sparepantsandtoothbrush · 30/01/2023 10:54

I'm not quite sure what your AIBU is but they're white with a hint of green

Cincinnatus · 30/01/2023 10:54

Silvery??

georgiegherkin · 30/01/2023 10:55

what’s your AIBU question?

Overgrowngrasslady · 30/01/2023 10:55

Well mine are silver. What’s your aibu?

luckylavender · 30/01/2023 10:56

Green.

Skyliner1 · 30/01/2023 10:56

Silver.

ChuhChuhChuhChanging · 30/01/2023 10:56

Green. Mirrors are green.

Iamwhatiam52 · 30/01/2023 10:57

Brilliant question. I'd say silver.

I had one from my DD when she was about 10: "Mummy, why do people tattoo their eyeballs black?" Not sure where she'd seen someone with black eyeballs but that was an interesting conversation. 😊

Ponoka7 · 30/01/2023 10:58

All mirrors aren't the same, they can be, silver, green, grey, then shades of black, orange etc.

Greentree1 · 30/01/2023 11:03

Sounds as though they are a bit confused by mirrors explain to them, that usually it's glass over a reflective (shiny) surface, or highly polished metal. Seven year old should be able to understand.

Slowingdownagain · 30/01/2023 11:05

Your 7 year old should be able to understand a basic explanation of how colour isn't actually the item as such, but rather the light it reflects. You can use this to discuss what colour a mirror is.

Good opportunity for a little licence lesson!

science, not licence. Weird autocorrect.

TinySaltLick · 30/01/2023 11:05

They don't have a colour, it reflects (basically) all light. Saying silver isn't quite right

Confuddledhelp · 30/01/2023 11:14

My aibu is aibu not to be able to answer this with confidence?

Silver, literally, as in the metal. Been a LONG time since I did my chemistry a-level, but it's something like silver nitrate and ammonia in a reaction, and the resulting silver ions put a really thin coating of silver on the glass, creating a mirror.

If I hadn't been taught that, I wouldn't really have known what to say either, as mirrors reflect whatever colour is there. So no, yanbu.

Mada1985 · 30/01/2023 11:31

Clear but looks silver due to backing

Wheelz46 · 30/01/2023 11:33

Well according to Google, mirrors are white with a tinge of green! White reflects all colours!

That's nothing to be ashmed of. I get asked loads of questions I don't know (or can't remember the answer to). "what colour do you think it is" is a good starting point. So is "I am not sure I know, should we look it up/ ask Alexa". It's a good lesson to show your kids that most people don't have the asnwer to everything but there's almost always a way of finding it!

Soilsister · 30/01/2023 15:45

They used to be silver but they are now aluminium (well most are) but I think you could describe the colour as silver - off topic vampires would be able to see their reflection in a modern (aluminium) mirror :)

TinySaltLick · 30/01/2023 19:03

A mirror isn't silver - silver is just also a reflective substance. Unlike gold for instance, silver reflects light without really changing the colour profile.

As per a previous post this is a teachable moment to talk about light and reflection

It's Werewolves and other lycanthropes that have to adopt a Silver Free (SF) diet and lifestyle. I'd imagine that vegetarian Vampires would be reluctant to try cauliflower or broccoli, though - what them being cruciferous and all...
