To ask if Acupuncture is worth the money?

Hello

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and have been suffering tension migraines since I was 6/7 weeks along. I didn't work for the first 13 weeks because they were crippling.

I've had dihydracodeine, amitriptyline and paracetamol, heat pads for my neck, cold strips for my forehead.

They disappeared for 2 weeks now I'm back to square one of waking up every day with one.

I'm at the end of my tether with if and don't want to keep taking painkillers that don't work as the benefits aren't outweighing the risks for the baby.

Somebody recommended a lady local to me who does acupuncture so I enquired and I've booked in as she said this is definitely something she can help with.

It's £75 for first session and consultation then £55 per session thereafter, it's probably not a lot in terms of her pricing and what she does but it's a lot to us as we are buying for first baby and private renting for the next year.

Did it work for you? I'm praying it's worth every penny and gives me some relief.

Personally, yes. Although not for headaches, I've had very successful treatment for awful hayfever, nom-healing C-section scar and back ache.

Hope you get some relief.

It didn’t work at all for me, it was for complex foot pain.

Liveafr · 29/01/2023 19:44

I tried it for insomnia before and during pregnancy and it didn't work for me either

whytesnow · 29/01/2023 19:49

Yep I believe it works

TheFairyCaravan · 29/01/2023 20:04

Yes, it is. I used to have it regularly for migraines and it helped a lot. Unfortunately I’ve moved house so let it slip and I’ve noticed a big change so I need to find someone else to do it.

Elieza · 29/01/2023 20:07

Works for me. Does things western medicine swears cannot be done.

I wouldn’t go to a professional (doctor or physio etc) who had ‘done a course’ on it though. I’d only go to an actual acupuncturist. They do it day in day out and study for years and years. Not just a couple of months on a course.

I've had acupuncture for quite a few things over the years, and my youngest DD for agonising sinusitis pain. Oldest son for travel sickness. I've been going to the same practice for almost 40 years,3rd generation. Do your homework, find one that is highly recommended. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

@Elieza she's got 20 years experience in acupuncture and reflexology and does it from a building in her garden so I think she specialises in it ☺️

She was also highly recommended on the local community page I posted on for recommendations 😊

I had acupuncture to try and induce my 10 day late DD as it had been recommended by a friend. For some reason as soon as the needles started going in I freaked out and screamed at him to stop and ran out of there. I NEVER do stuff like that, am fine with needles/injections usually and happy with massages etc. It really shook me up.

ConkerBonkers · 29/01/2023 20:54

Yes it helped me, once with neck pain, another time with back pain. If you are sitting on the fence and have the money to spend, I would certainly recommend giving it a shot

ThatsSubOptimal · 29/01/2023 20:57

Yes, changed my quality of live dramatically and, so far, seems like forever.

BoringLittleMe · 29/01/2023 21:00

Yes, I had it after a miscarriage and then throughout my pregnancy when I conceived again. I found it absolutely worth it.

I'd just check with her she's confident with it in pregnancy as there are some points you shouldn't use.

I had a headache for five months, constantly (stress and pandemic screen-staring all the time) My lady fixed it in half an hour. I went to her for fertility acupuncture and my gosh, I felt like a generator being cranked up with the amount of electrical feeling running through me after a session. Niggling sports injuries have been healed in one session. I swear she’s a white witch.
So yes, if you find someone properly qualified then it’s beyond worth it!
