Posted previously about my part time job that I had taken on. I thought it would be a breeze and thought I could stay there until sometime comes up in HR (which I am qualified in) and until DS is a little older and it brings me in some extra cash.

Ive had no training and just chucked on the tills, tomorrow I am on a breakfast shift tomorrow. I have never done breakfast so I am sure their is tons to learn.

Its causing me tons of stress no one really wants to train me manager is absolutely terrible.

AIBU to quit? I really didn’t want to but it’s stressing me out. I’m not desperate for the cash as I still earn an income from my online shop. But it would have been nice to have just had some extra to put in our savings.

I feel crazy asking this as I know what I would tell anyone else. But I don’t want to be a quitter.

Have you spoken to the manager about the lack of training?

VladmirsPoutine · 29/01/2023 18:46

What sort of place is it? A café? Or like a kiosk thing inside a bigger shop?

In any case - if this job doesn't mean the difference between you eating or not next month then go ahead and quit.

Christmaspyjamas · 29/01/2023 18:47

How long have you been there?

Benjispruce4 · 29/01/2023 18:53

I’d say give it a go. It might not be as bad as you think. At least then you’d be making a decision based on reality not fear.

It's early days, I'd give it a month and see how you feel. But if it's not for you, it's not for you

Just over a week now, manager keeps referring to online training being 12 weeks. However the online training doesn’t cover everything.

Fake it, turn up smile - what is the worst that can happen
Good Luck

Don't allow your nerves to ruin the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people.
Go in tomorrow and keep in the front of your mind that you can only do what you have been trained to do .if you can use your own skills and common sense,do so.Anything else, state politely but clearly that you have had no training and therefore you cannot assist until training is out in place.Good luck!you might enjoy it.😀🌻

Some tasks can only be learnt on the job, and in my experience, food service is one of them. Your online training will probably cover things like fire safety, security, basic food hygiene etc and the rest you will pick up by observing and copying your colleague's routines and good practice.

Go for it and turn up tomorrow. I understand the feeling though as my job isn’t exactly rocket science but I’ve been there two months and never been given any training. Working from home it’s meant I’ve made some mistakes and told I ‘should have known that’. It’s hard when you don’t know that ‘it’ is a ‘thing’ (if you see what I mean!!)

N00bz · 29/01/2023 19:18

You should turn up. Deciding not to do a shift 12-14 hours beforehand with no notice is pretty lousy on your colleagues.

Surely if you’re working on a till, it doesn’t matter if you’re scanning lunch items or breakfast bits?

Christmaspyjamas · 29/01/2023 19:26

Your first week really isn't going to be very representative of what the job will be like longer term.

Try to give it one more week I would say.

If you feel exactly the same in one week you could leave. But if it's got even a little better remember that the three month trial goes both ways and generally things get easier with time.

Findingmypurposeinlife · 29/01/2023 19:30

Don't quit! And don't sit thinking about all the things that can go wrong, think about all the things that could go amazingly instead!
You wouldn't have been asked to do the shift if they didn't think you were more than capable.
You just have to have some of that faith in yourself 😊 Think about that savings fund!!
