Original post here!

I am five years in to being a mum to this amazing child. And today I’m just so full of pride and wanted to share it and thought I’d give the whole backstory by linking to the previous post from 2018!

My little boy is thriving. He started at an amazing SEN school at the start of the month and has settled in beautifully. He has just received his ASD, ADHD and FASD diagnoses; he also had a cognitive assessment which put his FSIQ at 130.

I left the man I adopted him with. He turned nasty about a year in. He had contact with my son for a while but then turned abusive and then had the audacity to say my son was too difficult and walked out of his life. My son lost his father, brother and grandparent that day and he hasn’t seen any of them since.

I have an amazing partner who has taken my son on as his own (long before my ex left his life) and they have a beautiful relationship.

My son is clever, funny, charming. He adores everyone and most people he meets are completely enchanted by him. He is popular with his peers. He is talented and friendly and just bloody wonderful.

I am absolutely still as obsessed with him as I was five years ago ❤️

You sound like a wonderful person, and both you and your little boy are blessed. Best of luck to you and your extended family.

I didn't read the original thread first time round, so got to speed with it now, and what a lovely update here!

Voting wasn't really needed, but for the 4% that voted YABU - like, seriously?

Zooeyzo · 27/01/2023 21:55

Lovely update

ladymacbeth · 27/01/2023 21:57

Wow OP that's amazing. I have to take my hat off to you to approach this all so lovingly and healthily, especially given your little boys FASD.

Brewskipa · 27/01/2023 22:03

@ladymacbeth the diagnosis is very very recent and we all had an established relationship long before it was even a consideration that he might have it. Ultimately though it doesn’t change anything, we will never know what behaviours are down to FASD and what are ASD/ADHD as it all overlaps anyway and there’s every chance that had she never touched a drop of alcohol he would be exactly the same as he is now.

I accidentally clicked the wrong voting button, I'm really sorry ... this is a gorgeous thread and the original made me cry!

So please disregard at least one of the YABU votes as I can't change it back xx

If you click on the other option it will change your vote. Handy to know especially with all these jumping ads moving the page.

This is beautiful OP, you are such an amazing mum to that little boy. Your love and bond with him shines through every post.

Mountainpika · 27/01/2023 23:19

Happy thread.
Where is the original one, please?

Your little guy sounds so dreamy. What a perfect, beautiful love story. My friends have been trying to adopt for years and finally have a panel - hopefully I can send this onto them soon! So lovely that you found each other.

SaltnPeppaPig · 27/01/2023 23:37

How lovely. I've just read through the original thread and it's made me think I should appreciate my DCs more.

StoneofDestiny · 27/01/2023 23:45

Great update - may all your joys continue.

I'm really surprised to see you say this as you must know the link between excess alcohol in pregnancy FASD and ASD?
There are many articles on it.

You are very kind to describe his birth mum as a lovely person. You are definitely a very lovely kind caring person and your little boy is so lucky to have you.

pickyourown · 28/01/2023 00:04

This is lovely. The world needs more parents like you ❤️

Firecarrier · 28/01/2023 00:15

I remember this very well! I am a foster carer and this absolutely warms my heart! 🤗

OldFan · 28/01/2023 01:20

Great work @Brewskipa and glad you're enjoying it. I think it was a bad sign in thread 1 when your then partner 'failed to bond' with a child he'd agreed to take on. Ugh. Especially as your LO sounds lovely anyway.

Could you tell us a bit about how his learning disabilities manifest? Then you can keep us updated with how he's getting on Smile

mackthepony · 28/01/2023 01:24

Bravo op, I remember your original post.

💐

OldFan · 28/01/2023 01:25

or his difficulties in whatever way they effect him x

StarsSand · 28/01/2023 02:21

That's wonderful OP.

Dustyblue · 28/01/2023 05:10

Also hadn't read your 1st thread OP, but I have now and am all teary!

The bond you have with your DS is bloody inspiring. It took me ages to truly bond with my own DS (now 6, not adopted) so the way you took to each other immediately made me cry.

All the best to you and your boy X

Embelline · 28/01/2023 10:47

What an utterly joyful thread. Yes you are beyond lucky to have him but what a lucky little boy he is also.
