How long do you give a job?

Moved to a new role in October had a very mixed induction period - I don't feel settled, I don't think the job is for me, but as I have only been there less than 4 months I don't think I have given it a chance, so don't want to jump ship too soon and I don't think it would look good on my CV
Or if you know you're no happy, go now, cut your looses and look for something else.

For your CV, in most industries, a year is standard.

This is my 8th year...!

I’m 6months in mine, hate it. But had no issues with interviews in regards to the short amount of time being in my current role. Just be honest and say that it’s something you’d thought you’d enjoy but wasn’t for you. So long as your cv isn’t full of less than year stints then I wouldn’t worry

HashBrownandBeans · 27/01/2023 16:04

I was in the same boat, I knew after a week I’d hate it but have stuck it out through 9 months of bullying for the ‘cv looking shit’ reason. I still got asked at interviews why I was leaving this role and I was honest that I wasn’t happy with the management style here(they withhold key info every single day which makes my job ten times harder). I start a new role next weekend, thank god. I’d start looking now if I were you and stick it out.

I always think you need a year to truly get to grips with any new job.
Do you dislike the work or dislike being the new member of staff?

Not bothered about being the new person, they are a nice team
Its just a very fragmented service and its not as clinical or as hands on as I thought it would be, but it gives me a better work life balance, the chance to work from home, there are many positives, I just need to make it work for me

I gave it 2 months. Things I was told at interview simply aren't true. Never been so bored. Fortunate that a previous job wanted me back and offered more. There was no point staying some where I didn't like

oceanbleu · 27/01/2023 17:24

I'm 4 months in and felt I'd made a mistake the first 2 months, less so in the third and now feel like it was a good decision. Had a bad experience staying somewhere I should have left after years, so now I think if it hadn't improved by 4, I would have left.
