Cottages demolished for Bond villain monstrosities

UrCALLIsImportant2Us · 27/01/2023 11:10

I seem incapable of finding an isolated cottage on a windswept cliff to rent for a holiday. Have googled, tried AirBnB etc.
AIBU to think this is because any property that has a stunning location is knocked down to build the million pound property 'that the view deserves'?

I mean it's probably 50/50 - some will have been remodelled, and the others are probably homes rather than rentals. Anything less specific you would consider?

UrCALLIsImportant2Us · 27/01/2023 11:15

I really want it to be private and on a cliff with a noisy sea beneath. Could be anywhere in the UK or Ireland so I would have thought that still wasn't too specific as to show up no results

heldinadream · 27/01/2023 11:18

What do you mean by private? Nothing else visible nearby? I think that's tough to find these days.

Is this one not private enough?

ComtesseDeSpair · 27/01/2023 11:18

Lots of holiday lets like this in the Outer Hebrides. Search for Lewis and Harris on AirB&B. Often properly isolated and windswept, too.

MoleyAndGeorge · 27/01/2023 11:19

I suspect there were never many traditional cottages built on isolated cliffs -‘windswept’ is cool for a weekend and instagram, but if you want to get on with farming sheep with no central heating, you probably want to be sheltered and closer to a village.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 27/01/2023 11:20

Try Pembrokeshire coast. Or national trust holiday properties.

ThreeblackCats · 27/01/2023 11:20

Yes. Yabu.

This, really. I tend to think there’s a reason we don’t build stone cottages heated by open fireplaces anymore: they were fine when we didn’t have any superior building materials and methods of heating and insulation, but they can be uncomfortable and expensive to live in nowadays and to what end preserving outdated technology simply because “looks pretty”?

Greatly · 27/01/2023 11:23

They've probably all fallen into the sea tbh. Coastal erosion blah di blah

Beachsidesunset · 27/01/2023 11:25

House on a Rock, Newquay. Needs a pizza delivery person with a good head for heights.

National trust has some beauties

Lupinhollyhocks · 27/01/2023 11:27

Try Trinity lighthouses

corcaithecat · 27/01/2023 11:30

Plenty of coastal cottages in Ireland that match your description.
Try looking on www.daft.ie

westwalesholidaycottages.co.uk/swn-y-morloi-cottage we've stayed in a remote cottage with views of strumble head lighthouse, beautiful. I think it was one of these- many years ago

ImBlueDab · 27/01/2023 11:39

I've always fancied this one, and it is remote! Been to the beach close by and it's glorious

Wow, thanks so much for all the suggestions. Sorry I don't know how to quote multiple people so will reply below.

Outer Hebrides AirBnB - this is the idea I was after alright if I could get a less modern looking house and the cliff a bit higher

Whitby Cottages and House on a Rock Newquay, haven't the aesthetic I want of a small (preferably white) cottage
National Trust ones I saw were for lots of people or booked up

Pembrokeshire Coast - thanks for suggesting that as this cottage in Skye came up when I searched for Pembroke! This is pretty close. Thanks. Would prefer a bit more of a cliff but as near as damn it.

If you're still looking, this might fit the bill (though it might be too big as it sleeps 8).

This is much smaller, but grander than a cottage!

Pembrokeshire is beautiful OP, have a wonderful time!

that does look so lovely but if it is on the NC500 route it might not feel very remote, depending on the time of year.
