To ask if anyone knows about liver tests

Dh (34) takes medication for epilepsy which means routine blood tests and it has come back as liver abnormal - elevated enzymes.

He's had it repeated and the results were the same so DR has arranged a scan and to see a hepatologist.
He has a poor diet eats crisps, chocolate, pizza and drinks about once a week between 8/10 cans of carling. I say once a week as a maximum as it's not every week but in one night.

Aibu to be worried about this? The DR says she doesn't know what it means which is why the scan but other than that it's just a waiting game.

He's stopped drinking and decided he's going to start eating a healthy diet and do some exercise, he is overweight If that's what could be the problem.

I suppose I'm hoping someone can tell me it'll be nothing to worry about.

My DM has elevated enzymes too.. She does not drink, is a healthy weight and BMI, healthy diet. All other blood test results indicate nothing abnormal at all, apart from one liver enzyme. Her GP even accused of her lying about drinking.
She has had that result for several years now, and is only just getting it investigated. They are starting with a liver scan too,

Being overweight can affect your liver. Your DH will do good to get on a path of getting fit and losing some weight.

My understanding is that it is commonly caused by drinking or being overweight. But liver readings can also be affected by medications or simply having an illness at the time of the test.

I had raised liver enzymes many years ago, at a time I was drinking far too much - around 3-4 bottles of wine a week. I stopped completely for 2 months and they went back to normal. And I’ve been much more careful with my alcohol intake ever since. The liver is an amazing organ, hopefully with the right tests/medical advice he can reverse any damage.

I had that, it went on for a few months and was picked up by a routine blood test. I was taking two strong medications at the time for a condition I have. Was sent off for an ultrasound on my liver which showed no issues, bloods checked for a bit longer and enzyme levels returned to normal. No explanation for it. Fingers crossed your DH’s level returns to normal, could just be a blip. My doctor took me off one of the meds just in case that was causing it.

Thank you, I really hope it's nothing to worry about.
A bit of wake up call though if anything positive is to come from it.
