Ok so I had a brain mri 6 months ago due to ongoing issues I am having. Dizziness, feeling sick, serious sore heads, pins and needles ,weakness on left side, blurred vision and tremors. Now the strange thing is I got a letter in the post today with the findings in the mri is this normal?? All the letter says is they found non-specific changes (what even does this mean) and will arrange a review and will be in contact. Has anyone been through this or has wise words trying to stay away from Dr Google 🙈

Normal is literally all you need to know.

Parker231 · 24/01/2023 20:42

Normal is good.

I received my results in the post too 11 weeks after the MRI, although the day before my GP had chased them so it was a crossover I think. They would have rung if it was serious to get you into a hospital appointment immediately (I presume).

I was meaning was it normal to receive in the post. It says is have non-specific changes which I don't know what that means

Do people not even bother to read a short OP? It did not say normal.

OP got a letter in the post, about which she asked "Is this normal??" to get a letter in the post about a brain MRI.

The findings were not normal. The findings were "non-specific changes".

HTH

yep mine was by post too.

SouthCountryGirl · 24/01/2023 21:22

I've always had letters about MRI scans and other tests through the post.

Then it's usually either a follow up appointment or more tests.

Nimbostratus100 · 24/01/2023 21:24

yes, normal to get test results in the post. Although these days I also get texted a link to see the letter online, and that normally arrives first

SmokyForTheWin · 24/01/2023 21:26

After my first brain MRI I was called 3 hours later and told to go to A&E with an overnight bag.
I think if they post your results it's probably not urgent.

Namechange78903 · 24/01/2023 22:54

Glad that's seems normal to receive it in the post 1st I have had anything like this before

None-specific means there are things that could not be immediately linked to a diagnosis and that they need comparison images, or further testing. Its basically a "we dont know just yet", but it doesn't mean there is something to be concerned about, it could be normal. Try not to be worried about it until you have all the facts. But yes, letters are commonplace.

@lacey79 aww thank you for explaining what it means no doubt he will want another mri then to check for changes. Always a worry the doctors say they will test for certain things that wouldn't even have crossed my mind so no answers just leaves feeling a little panicked

Your MRI letter will be from a radiographer I imagine, so although they can identify changes, areas of concern, or issues that require immediate attention, they can't send you or give a diagnosis, that would be a neurologists role. So any letter wouldnt actually give you much more information, its just an overview. The neuro team will then look into it further and decide on what subsequent images or testing they require xx

Pixiedust1234 · 25/01/2023 00:01

When I had certain procedures done at the hospital the consultant asked if I wanted a copy of the letter they would send to my GP. I said yes please and received letters with medical terminology that went over my head as it was for a another medical person to read and not me. Can you remember if they asked you the same?

Namechange78903 · 25/01/2023 17:11

@Pixiedust1234 no I wasn't asked anything like this seen the neurologist he sent me for mri and then said he would be in touch that was it.
