How "house viewing ready" is your house?

At this precise moment, if you were/are going to have people coming to look at your house, how "ready" is your house?

I'm not planning on selling but mine is a disgrace. 😔

It's been slowly dawning on me that if we were to sell, we'd have to put a lot of work into it so why are we living with the mess and clutter and half decorated rooms etc? Why would we put all that effort in for other people but not us?

Now I need to put that into action and change it.

I'm pretty sure mine would be classified as a 'shithole'.

Our house is a full renovation project that we don't have time to do. It looks like we just moved in, despite it being almost 2yrs ago. I hate people coming round because they aways comment how much worse it looks than the last time they came.

It would easily take months just to tidy it up 😣

maddiemookins16mum · 24/01/2023 17:40

They could come at 8pm. Three of us, 45 mins per person - split the areas.

LucyWhipple · 24/01/2023 17:44

5 mins and I’d be ready for EA photos. Does help that the cleaner came today so on any other day of the week I might need 20 mins?

DH grew up in a really cluttered home so having a clear, organised home is really important to him. I like living in a house that is organised and looks nice. There are a couple of bits of paintwork that could be touched up but wouldn’t be make or break to a house sale.

AngelinaFibres · 24/01/2023 17:49

Mine is viewer ready but......
I am retired
My children are adults and live elsewhere.
I no longer have dogs.
I watched a ch5 programme on hoarders last week and I was so twitchy about the emotional aspects of hanging on to crap that I had a massively therapeutic clearout of material I will never use, my first wedding dress congratulations cards from my first wedding and a whole lot else.
I am married to the tidiest man in the world.
It was warm at the beginning of January and I spent 2 days sorting the dead stuff in the garden.

Millana · 24/01/2023 18:48

Declutterers- you've decluttered but how do you plan on not building up clutter again?
I tried a strict one in, one out rule and a not getting random stuff without knowing where it would go or be used but things seem to multiply!

I like your perspective OP and it speaks to the value of a good declutter. Which I need to do urgently!

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 24/01/2023 18:53

I'd need about an hour in my bedroom, 3 in the playroom and maybe 20 mins in the bathroom to get them ready. Not too bad really though. The rest of the house is pretty much there!

Itstarts · 24/01/2023 18:54

Cleaners have been today and we only got home half hour ago so at this moment in time, ready.

Ask again tomorrow... Confused

OrangePomander · 24/01/2023 18:55

Ha ha ha ha. I’d need a couple of weeks and a skip.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 24/01/2023 18:55

We're currently nowhere near we are releasing as we are wanting to put ours on the market soon! We have a very long list of tasks to work through!!

C1N1C · 24/01/2023 18:58

Ready to go. My wife would disagree but that's because there's a cat hair on the sofa, soooo....

Yarrawonga · 24/01/2023 19:00

Ha ha ha ha. I’d need a couple of weeks and a skip.

I’m glad I”m not alone!

FindingMeno · 24/01/2023 19:04

Ours is scruffy round the edges. Tired.

PermanentTemporary · 24/01/2023 19:10

I like seeing a house as it is lived in, and I'm quite good at seeing the bones.

I had my house valued about 2 months ago (had a massive panic about moving in with dp and never put it on the market). For the valuers I pulled all the stops out and it took 2 full days. Now I'd say that if I had half an hour or so, it would be in a good enough state for normal people to view it. But then I live alone!

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/01/2023 19:14

We've got a 10 week old baby, the place is a shit hole 😂

3peassuit · 24/01/2023 19:15

I’d say ours would take about 30 minutes only because our children have left home. When they lived here it would have been the best part of a day.

TheGoogleMum · 24/01/2023 19:15

Nope we can never get on top of the mess/clutter!

OnlyFannys · 24/01/2023 19:17

Mine could be guest ready in about an hour (my cleaner came today) but house viewing ready would need a month, a skip and a miracle.

WonderingWanda · 24/01/2023 19:17

With a couple of hours cleaning I wouldn't be embarrassed for people to come in and it would look quite nice. However, I do want to list it and and think it would look cluttered in the photo's so really need to do some epid decluttering which I can't face. Also thr garden is a mess, the decking needs a clean too.

Frumpymumma · 24/01/2023 19:18

10 min. Bit of washing up. That's it.

piedbeauty · 24/01/2023 19:19

Not at all!!! 😂😱

Gistbury · 24/01/2023 19:21

Ours is pretty decent. Our back room is full of drying clothes so that would have to be put away. Would have to wipe toddler wee off of the loo seats and make sure there aren't any number twos waiting to be flushed. Also we do have a spare room which is a dumping ground so would take a good day and some to clear that

IncessantNameChanger · 24/01/2023 19:22

If someone was to walk into my house now I think they would walk straight back out! I am actually decluttering my boys room right now. Trying to think how many bedding sets etc they need each. A friend has suggested packing up everything except three days worth of essentials then clean clear and unpack with purpose. I'm going to try that this month

XenoBitch · 24/01/2023 19:24

My house is best described as "crime scene" viewing the moment. Is a tip.

MoomiMama · 24/01/2023 19:24

I’d probably do more for guests than for a viewing but this is probably coloured by the fact that we aren’t looking to sell. Either way about half an hour would do it. I don’t think a few crumbs would be the deal breaker for most people on liking a house or not. We could definitely repaint etc but I am never sure if it’s worth doing that for house sales as buyers often have their own colour preferences etc.
