Lidl Greek yogurt, mouldy for sixth time never buying again

I love this yogurt and eat it everyday, but the last few months on several occasions it's either been unavailable or I've bought it and discovered mould. For one reason and another I haven't had the chance to go back to the store with it which is 6 miles away. This time I am going back though will still have to wait as car is off the road waiting for a spare part.

Has anyone else had this? Today was the last straw. I was slightly suspicious as there was a little amount of yellow around the exterior rim but inside looked fine. Dolloped it on my breakfast, licked the spoon and spat it out so disgusting.

I know I'm unreasonable for not complaining previously, but am I unreasonable for stopping assuming they must have sorted out this quality-control and deciding never to buy it again and it putting me off trusting Lidl completely now.

I always have this yogurt and never had a problem I have the biggest tub one with the dark blue label is that the one you mean?

Branleuse · 24/01/2023 12:05

I would think its a storage error in your local branch. I would email the store manager.

realmsofglory · 24/01/2023 12:05

i buy this every week and never had a problem.
maybe yur fridge is dodgy?

Warspite · 24/01/2023 12:07

Next time take a Tupperware box, Peel back the lid at the checkout/packing atea and check for mould.
If ok, pop into box to avoid spillage & off you go.
I eat it regularly. Never an issue.

Going off piste …
I’ve also eaten a fruit yoghurt 3 months past its use by date. No mould, tasted absolutely fine. No bad after affects either.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/01/2023 12:11

I also think this must be a local issue - I eat an indecent amount of that yoghurt and I've never once had a problem with it.

snowspider · 24/01/2023 12:21

Yes the big tub full fat dark blue version. I have been buying it for years from the same store. Then they had supply issues and now it seems this problem. Our fridge is fine. I'm also qualified in food hygiene and nothing else is a problem.

When I've shopped in other supermarkets it's been fine (though I've also noticed supply issues across the board for full fat Greek style yogurt presumably Brexit.

I buy it too and no issues.

Justcallmebebes · 24/01/2023 12:34

I eat this every day and have never had a problem with it. I buy it both from city centre store in E Mids and market town in East Mids, so different stores, always been fine.

Glorianna · 24/01/2023 13:02

Lidl and Aldi are too far from me but when I have bought the Aldi Greek yog it's been nice. At £1.40 it's not massively cheaper than supermarket Greek yog tho.

Hankunamatata · 24/01/2023 13:09

Message them and tell them. It may be a store issue

MaverickGooseGoose · 24/01/2023 13:11

It's the only thing I buy in Lidl apart from shit from the middle, and have never had a problem with it. It must be being mistored somewhere because it keeps for ages.

User12453315 · 24/01/2023 13:12

With any chilled food, always take one from the back with the longest expiration date. That will give you the best chances that it's still ok. Sometimes it's also due to other customers. I've seen refrigerated foods dumped in random shelves elsewhere and depending on the market, it might end up getting put back into the original position. Some shoppers also deliberately or inadvertently tamper with the packaging (eg small kids poking the yoghurt lids or dropping the packaging on the floor). If the airtight seal is broken in the slightest then the food inside will go mouldy extremely quickly. Yoghurt lids can easily get a tiny crack if the pack gets dropped sideways.

gogohmm · 24/01/2023 13:16

I eat it daily and have not had issues with quality or supply ever.

LadyMcLadyface · 24/01/2023 13:17

I had an issue with the same Lidl Greek yoghurt a week ago - ate some and had horrendous sickness and stomach problems for a few days afterwards, was sure it was the yoghurt (I'm in Scotland though)...

ilovesooty · 24/01/2023 13:19

Never had a problem with the product. If you shop at a store 6 miles away of course raising a concern is going to be more difficult.

Oysterbabe · 24/01/2023 13:20

We eat this exact product every day and never had an issue.

The distance to supermarkets is a rural life problem so yep, that is true.

It seems most people are also big consumers with no mould so I will guess it's for some reason my local store.

It is supermarket yogurt

ilovesooty · 24/01/2023 13:33

Apologies @snowspider I should have thought that you might be rural. My Lidl is less than half a mile away. Sorry.

TrashyPanda · 24/01/2023 13:36

We buy it twice a week and have never had an issue

no problem, having only one car between us and being rural is also a pitta when it is off the road. In fact at this time of year hard to see the appeal of rural living 🤔mouldy yogurt aside

It takes ages for yoghurt to go off imo.

We had an unopened tub a month out of date, and it was still fine.

Was the seal intact ?

Whatatimetobealivetoday · 24/01/2023 13:58

Sounds like a storage issue in the local store not a Lidl product issue.

snowspider · 24/01/2023 14:00

They've all been sealed. Todays didn't have any coloured mould but a slight yellow look to the edge on close inspection. Previous ones had either a little circle of mould on the surface or again on close looking grey mould inside the rim of the pot and when I examined it some grey bits deeper down in the yogurt. All long dated etc.

I’d say I eat this 5 or 6 days weekly. I buy both the large and small tubs and have never had a problem. It must be your store. Try ringing their customer service to discuss it.
