AIBU to think I can lose 2 stone in 2 months with SW?

I finally weighed myself 2 weeks ago after putting it off for so long. Pre lockdown, I weighed on average approximately 9 stone, I was running, doing pilates and gym 4 times a week and my job was far more active. I was disgusted to find that I weighed 11 stone 11 (I am 5 ft 4) putting me in the higher end of the overweight category. This is due to boozing, eating crisps whilst WFH all week and meals out at least 3x per week. This knowledge has really got me down and I feel that I was living in denial- I realised I had put some weight on but guessed I was around 10st and just got rid of my clothes that no longer fitted. I have weighed myself this morning and I am now 11 stone 8 after following the plan for 2 weeks. I really want to get this off as quickly as possible, I have cut out all alcohol and sugar and have upped my gym use and made sure I do at least 10,000 steps per day. Has anybody had any luck with losing that amount in a similar time frame?

At your weight it's very unlikely. You could probably comfortably lose a stone but not 2. I believe SW says half a stone a month is the expected amount to lose.

It didn't go on overnight, it's not going to come off overnight. Don't set an unrealistic target. Do it at a sensible rate & it's more likely to stay off

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 23/01/2023 07:17

You could try intermittent fasting - there's an app you can download - it worked for me when I had exactly the weight gain you describe due to lockdown. I am also the same height as you. Can't guarantee 2 stone - but after 2 months there was a significant difference.

Namechangeforthis88 · 23/01/2023 07:18

Yes, 2 lbs a week is a reasonable expectation, and reasonably healthy rate if you have it to lose, but staying consistent for two months might be tricky. Think of your long term health. You will see and feel a difference quickly at 2 lbs a week.

I'm a similar weight and height to you by the way. Also put on over lockdown and WFH. 9 stone is on the low end for our height. People thought I was overdoing it at about 9 and a half but we're all different and they were used to me being bigger.

Bestcatmum · 23/01/2023 07:24

The onlybway you can lose thst much weight in 2 months is on a 600 cslorie a day diet such as exante. If you look at the offers you can get a months supply for under £100. I've done it.
People do it to reverse diabetes.
It's hard work. But when you've lost the weight you should do SW as a follow up eating an or the weight wi go back on.

BumpySkull · 23/01/2023 07:24

No one here can answer for you because we don’t know your body composition or situation. You’ll get a lot of bad advice about intermittent fasting, water weight, CICO, weight training and increasing muscle mass. These threads always do.

It’s highly unlikely you could lose two stone of fat in two months, especially on SW (which is a business model designed to get repeat custom). But we have no idea how much of what you’re aiming to lose is fat and how much is water/bloat. You could’ve weighed yourself after a big meal (making you 1.5kg heavier) whilst at the heaviest point in your cycle (making you 3kg heavier) having had a salty meal the day before (making you 2.5kg heavier) and you could, therefore, shed over a stone from your starting weight from those things settling without burning a single gram of actual fat.

icelollycraving · 23/01/2023 07:26

I would recommend Fast 800.

SpamIAm · 23/01/2023 07:31

That would be a lot to lose in that time frame, especially as you're not starting from a particularly high weight. Sympathies though OP, my situation (and weight) was very similar. Knew all my clothes were getting a bit snug was was shocked to step on the scales and find I was officially overweight. Got down to about 9st3 with Noom but then there was Christmas so I'm up at around 9.5 now. Took much longer than 2 months but I'm happy with the pace - I've build some really good habits along the way which will hopefully make it sustainable.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/01/2023 07:34

You might think you want to 'get it off as fast as possible' but deep down you must not know that it's not really possible to lose that much that fast (might be if you were much heavier, but generally not for those who don't have very much to lose) and also that you need to view a return to healthy eating and activity levels as a long term lifestyle change, not a quick fix for a short period.

Because what will you do after that? Carry on with your new lifestyle, or return to eating too much, eating the wrong things and being inactive, so you'll gain weight again?

Pterrydactyl · 23/01/2023 07:35

I think you’re unlikely to lose 2 stone in 2 months regardless of what diet plan you use.

You’d have to have an average weight loss of around 3.5 pounds a week.
And in your OP you say you’ve been doing slimming world for 2 weeks and lost 3 pounds so far.

So no. 4 months, maybe, if that sort of weight loss is typical, but I wouldn’t expect to lose it in 2 months.

WilsonMilson · 23/01/2023 07:36

You technically could do it, but you likely lose muscle too, very hard to just burn fat in that timescale.

If I were you, I would take your eye off the numbers and timescale and just focus on eating well, cutting down alcohol and exercising more. It will happen if you do that. Massively dropping calories to starvation level is a bad idea.

redskydelight · 23/01/2023 07:41

I think 2 stone in 2 months is possible if you are starting with a lot to lose (so 22 stone to 20 stone, for example).

At your weight, I'd say it's near impossible. I suspect you will lose the first stone comparatively quickly and the second stone will be slower. I don't think 2lbs sustained weight loss (if you want to keep it off and live healthily) is possible at those weights.

If it helps, for comparison I lost 2 stone prior to my wedding and it took me just over 4 months. I was pretty strict about sticking to the diet and regular exercise.

I suspect you'll see differences at a higher overall weight if you are more toned up. It may be that 9 stone isn't an appropriate weight for you any more now you are older.

EyesOnThePies · 23/01/2023 07:42

Your weight went on gradually, eating healthily, cutting out snacks, reducing portion size etc and losing 1-2lbs a week will very soon make a difference and reset your eating in a long term sustainable way.

Better than a panic crash diet.

misskatamari · 23/01/2023 07:45

i would really advise looking up Rebelfit on facebook. Their content and missions are fantastic, and focus on health, well being and strength, and getting out of diet culture, to live a strong and happy life. might not be what you're after, but it could save you from going down the damaging path of yoyo dieting and shame that so many of us have unfortunately experienced

EyesOnThePies · 23/01/2023 07:45

P.S well done on losing 3lbs! That’s like 6 packs of butter gone from your middle!!

Carry on like that and be pleased with yourself, rather than setting yourself up to meet targets which are unachievable or can only be met using unhealthy regimes.

SnarkyBag · 23/01/2023 07:46

Not remotely realistic target. I think you could lose a stone which would be a great achievement in 2 months and would make a huge difference to how you feel and look. You can definitely get the two stone off with you current plan but not in two months.

I’ve done low carb/low cal before and even after the initially high drop in weight the weekly loss tends to drop to a pound a week maybe two if I was really really strict.

WordtoYoMumma · 23/01/2023 07:49

In my experience a 1-3lb weight loss per week is realistic on SW. It won't be 3lb every week even if you stick to the plan completely.

In 2 months you could lose 1-1.5 stone if you work hard. I think 2 stone is perhaps pushing it although I have known people to do it - generally when they are obese and have a huge amount to lose though.

Calmdown14 · 23/01/2023 08:17

Everyone I have ever seen achieve this my crash diet, really low intake methods has piled it back on and more.

Why is two months so important you'd risk wrecking your metabolism for it?

You have a big advantage in that you know where you are going wrong with the crisps and meals out.
Just stick with healthy eating and exercise and you'll be looking much better by summer and are far more likely to stay that way.

You could also try measuring yourself as you may see improvements to your shape as well as what the scales tell you that will keep you more motivated.

Warringstars · 23/01/2023 08:22

Has someone really suggested 600 calorie a day diet for someone who is 11 stone (same as me and therefore whilst not ideal, is unlikely to be suffering any health consequences of her weight that would be counterbalanced by such a low calorie intake?) that seems so extreme and unhealthy.

Quartz2208 · 23/01/2023 08:23

you are wanting to lose around 17% of your body weight that is a harsh target that risks you screwing with your metabolism and putting it all back on if you don’t do it sensibly.

continue with what you are doing and see what happens. The first weigh in can be a lot of water weight as well so may not continue

SleeplessInEngland · 23/01/2023 08:25

You need to completely change what you eat. Losing weight: 95% diet, 5% exercise.

(People who do the latter are often good at the norm we so correlation is confused with causation.)

SleeplessInEngland · 23/01/2023 08:25

*good at the former

Zanatdy · 23/01/2023 08:52

I’d say it will be tough but not completely impossible. I’m back on a diet today, I lost 24lbs in lockdown (restaurants closed, no food to tempt me at work and massively got into exercise) but gained it all back! I’m always up and down weight wise, but I’ve got a new boyfriend after being single for years so I do want to get rid of my wobbly stomach! Good luck

toomuchscreentime · 23/01/2023 08:56

Just be careful OP, I lost 1.5 stone (with WW not SW) in 2 months ready for a holiday in November, and I've managed to put the entire lot back on in less time than it took to lose it in the first place 🤦‍♀️

We all know deep down that doing it slowly and sensibly will get it off and keep it off, but I appreciate that's easier said than done!

Such a dangerous practice - trying to reverse daibetes in this way. And it rarely works effectively.
Why do people expect a miracle fix all the time? try a sensible diet and accept that long-term weight loss requires effort

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 23/01/2023 09:01

SW for me is a no

calories in vs calories out is where it is. Work out your TDEE and go from there.

If you’re a member of a gym ask to speak to the PT there about an exercise and nutrition plan.

lose the weight healthily. SW is not the answer.

In SW their own packaged food is syn free. Yet an Asda branded product with exactly the same nutritional composition is not.

It’s a money making exercise.
