AIBU to join Slimming World just for the weigh ins?

Will the leader care? Will she want evidence that I'm on-plan? I will actually be doing My Fitness Pal. I'm not rich but the £6 a week is only what I'd be spending on crisps and chocolate. I know how to diet, I just need the public weekly weigh ins to keep me on track. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who's done this.

Could you save money and weigh in here instead? I'm sure some other people would join in Smile

Woeman · 23/01/2023 06:39

I was weighing in here. It lasted a week.

I think that's fine. If you don't stay for the group and just weigh and go the consultant will have no idea whether you're 'on plan' or not.

HeadacheEarthquake · 23/01/2023 06:45

I did this, and used MFP. They had no idea - although I did use a lot of their recipes and stay for the chat sometimes too.

WordtoYoMumma · 23/01/2023 07:01

The consultant won't care but it seems a lot of money to pay just to weigh. When I went to slimming world I ended up not enjoying the group and just going to weigh in and I really resented the cost!

But you didn't ask for alternative suggestions so I won't 😜

Yes you can definitely use the SW weekly class just to weigh in. There will be a joining fee and you'll have to sit through the new members chat first time

Thank you!

My DH does this - he doesn't follow the SW plan at all, but still goes for the weigh-in. He originally got a few months free via the NHS, found that the weighing in worked for him, even if the SW plan wasn't, and has carried on with it now that he has to pay. It definitely helps him to keep on track, and is worth every penny for his health. The consultant doesn't care at all, DH sometimes stays for the meeting, but usually not.

I have Fitbit Aria scales. Expensive initially, but so glad I bought them. Had them a few years, so works out cheaper than paying to weigh in. I like that it sends my weight direct to my app each time I weigh myself and gives me weight graphs.

Have you asked at your local surgery if you can get this for free on 'prescription'. Many Trusts now offer subsidised gym/pool membership and FREE weight watchers/slimmingworld for 12 weeks if there's a clinical health benefit for weight loss.
Do what works for you.

PrancerandDancer · 23/01/2023 15:48

I don't know... the groups I used to go to had pushy leaders who would quiz you as you went out the door.

Depending on where you live is there an NHS class? Check with your GP, I am in Essex and did one which was 12 weeks and I had a weekly weigh in.

pishkashante · 23/01/2023 16:14

That £6 a week could buy some healthy food, but it's up to you.

I weight myself daily and it's exciting every time. I run down in the morning after using the loo and weight myself and have a little dance or sigh, and dutifully enter the result into my app.

It's a real buzz seeing the chart showing my loss over the last year.

pishkashante · 23/01/2023 16:15

Not sure why device keeps correcting weigh to weight Hmm

Happylivingonmyown · 23/01/2023 18:02

I'm thinking of doing this too. I'm currently on the NHS plan with weekly meetings online and I weigh myself and email the lady who runs it. The reason I've got so fat is due to lockdown and working from home, which has slowly led to hardly ever going out, getting no exercise and eating too much. I also need to stand in front of someone and be held accountable (and I think the trip out might do me some good too!) I'd try to stick to what I've learned through the NHS, but might pick up some tips in a real live meeting.
Good luck on your weight loss journey!

I do this too! It keeps me on track and focussed.

No you’ll be fine.

I was doing Slimming World with weight loss injections. (Don’t own scales myself) eating slimming world foods apart from laying off all you can eat pasta…

I enjoyed the group, warm welcome which ever group I went to, chance to get a hot drink and be amongst people, I stayed for whole session and the last meeting they helped me from scales to seat, that time got interesting as someone asked about the science part behind food optimising.

I’ve had consultant in the past who didn’t eat veggies so I figured anything went.

Preparedforjobnottolast · 23/01/2023 19:41

ps they tweak it now in that they don’t want to hear confessions, just if need help in coming week.

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 19:42

I was actually thinking of doing this

Campervangirl · 23/01/2023 19:46

Yeah I would, it'll help you stay on track / hold you accountable so to speak.
I used to go to slimming world, I stuck to it because it was so maddening at weigh in if I hadn't lost any weight, it actually worked for me, I was slimmer of the week two weeks running, my greatest achievement 😁
