@Ditzyduck
If you don't mind me asking (I don't know any Argos employees to ask,) why are Argos actually more than happy to give items over when somebody has paid by debit card or credit card, with just the FT number and 4 digit pin...but they refuse to give items over, if you pay by Argos card and you haven't got it with you? Even if you have the FT number and the 4 digit pin, and you show them a driving licence, utility bill, other photo ID, or something else with your address on, they refuse to hand the item over if you have forgot the card.
I got something in the summer and it was seven pounds, and I went to get it from Argos a few days later. The closest Argos to me is a 40 mile round trip. (I had to go the town that Argos is in for an appointment, so was going to kill 2 birds with one stone.) I paid for it online and left the Argos card by my armchair after I had paid, and it got knocked down the back of the little cabinet by my table. Upshot is I forgot the card!
They refused to give me the item. I pulled out my drivers licence, I pulled out a bank statement with my name and address on it, and also a GP letter I had in my handbag with my address on, and of course I had the FT number and the 4 digit pin. They absolutely would not budge, no matter how much I begged and pleaded and said 'look at my address you can check it on Google - it's a 40 mile round trip away... I can't simply pop back for the card...' They would not give me the item.
There's no way in hell I was going back for it. Like I say, it was only seven pounds. Would not have hurt them to give it to me. I had so much proof of who I was. I probably would have used virtually the value of the item on the extra petrol to get there and back. So I said 'never mind, forget it, I'll have a refund...' They said 'we can't refund you as the transaction cannot complete until you show your Argos card and receive the item.'
So I said 'I'll just wait for the money to drop back into my account then because I know Argos refund in five or six days if you don't pick it up after seven days.'
Yes, I know it was my fault I forgot the card. But at the same time there has to be a little flexibility surely? It was an item worth just seven pounds, (not a £600 laptop,) I had several forms of proof of identity with me, and proof of my address, and the FT number and 4 digit pin. So out of curiosity, why are they so so so strict about this when they're quite happy to give the item over with just the FT number and PIN code, when it's another form of payment?
Thanks in advance. x
