Yes they can.

Just order and pay, then send them the email confirmation and they can use this to pick up.

I've done it a few times x

Princesspollyyy · 21/01/2023 22:19

And no, you're not being unreasonable 😀

Msgrieves · 21/01/2023 22:19

If they have the email yes. Never been asked for id.

Ditzyduck · 21/01/2023 22:19

If you order it as a fast track as long as they have the FT number and collection code and you haven’t paid by Argos card it’s fine
I work for argos . They don’t need ID

Ipadannie · 21/01/2023 22:20

Should be fine just forward the text on to whoever is collecting. Dh often picks up my orders. Only exception is if you pay on an argos card as they want to physically see that for some reason

DuplicateUserName · 21/01/2023 22:20

Yes, what @Princesspollyyy said.

My DS always picks mine up after I've forwarded or printed the email for him.

FatOaf · 21/01/2023 22:20

Yes. You order it for collection at their branch and pay for it. Argos sends you a collection code, which you forward to the recipient.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 21/01/2023 22:22

Yes, I've occasionally ordered stuff for DC at uni to pick up at their local Sainsbury's, they just need the two codes.

@Ditzyduck

If you don't mind me asking (I don't know any Argos employees to ask,) why are Argos actually more than happy to give items over when somebody has paid by debit card or credit card, with just the FT number and 4 digit pin...but they refuse to give items over, if you pay by Argos card and you haven't got it with you? Even if you have the FT number and the 4 digit pin, and you show them a driving licence, utility bill, other photo ID, or something else with your address on, they refuse to hand the item over if you have forgot the card.

I got something in the summer and it was seven pounds, and I went to get it from Argos a few days later. The closest Argos to me is a 40 mile round trip. (I had to go the town that Argos is in for an appointment, so was going to kill 2 birds with one stone.) I paid for it online and left the Argos card by my armchair after I had paid, and it got knocked down the back of the little cabinet by my table. Upshot is I forgot the card!

They refused to give me the item. I pulled out my drivers licence, I pulled out a bank statement with my name and address on it, and also a GP letter I had in my handbag with my address on, and of course I had the FT number and the 4 digit pin. They absolutely would not budge, no matter how much I begged and pleaded and said 'look at my address you can check it on Google - it's a 40 mile round trip away... I can't simply pop back for the card...' They would not give me the item.

There's no way in hell I was going back for it. Like I say, it was only seven pounds. Would not have hurt them to give it to me. I had so much proof of who I was. I probably would have used virtually the value of the item on the extra petrol to get there and back. So I said 'never mind, forget it, I'll have a refund...' They said 'we can't refund you as the transaction cannot complete until you show your Argos card and receive the item.'

So I said 'I'll just wait for the money to drop back into my account then because I know Argos refund in five or six days if you don't pick it up after seven days.'

Yes, I know it was my fault I forgot the card. But at the same time there has to be a little flexibility surely? It was an item worth just seven pounds, (not a £600 laptop,) I had several forms of proof of identity with me, and proof of my address, and the FT number and 4 digit pin. So out of curiosity, why are they so so so strict about this when they're quite happy to give the item over with just the FT number and PIN code, when it's another form of payment?

Thanks in advance. x

I don't have data on my phone so can't pull up a forwarded email. Husband screenshots the order number and sends it via WhatsApp. I just show the photo on my phone. Never been refused, or even asked.

Eastereggsboxedupready · 22/01/2023 00:48

Ime they need to see the card used to pay for the item.

It’s all down to Fraud the management do tend to have some leeway in the decision to hand over the goods especially in your instance as it wasn’t a £300 laptop , my store would’ve just done this considering you had I.D but I know some stores are just not so helpful to customers. “It tells you on your email or text msg you will need your Argos card “
We are told to use our hearts and have common sense when dealing with customers .
If items aren’t collected after 7 days you do get a refund that’s true but it doesn’t help your situation . Always question a manager if you ain’t happy because our store manager falls over himself to help customers !

SpinningFloppa · 22/01/2023 03:04

Yes they can collect it and they have never asked to see my card or id so that isn’t true.

Also annoyingly they CAN refund you there and then as long as they hadn’t marked your item as received …
this does my head in because a lot of colleagues don’t want the headache of our system or aren’t trained properly but you can tell them to just cancel it and it generates a refund there and then on our system .

i think you can also go into your order in your account and cancel it aswell so you don’t have to wait .
