Is it normal to be this tired?

Obviously no one can tell me exactly but I suppose I’m wondering if it’s normal to feel absolutely knackered all the time (based on what I’m doing) or if I should maybe start looking to see if somethings wrong.

I’m in my mid 20s, doing a full time masters degree. I also work between 12-16 hours a week (WFH) and manage a society I’m part of. I’m pretty healthy, eat well, exercise 3-4 days a week. So I am quite busy but I am also constantly EXHAUSTED. I sleep pretty well at night, minimum of 8 hours but if I find myself needing 1-2 hour naps every day to be able to manage.

On my limited days off where I’d love to socialise I can sleep 15+ hours a day even when I try desperately not to. Is this normal? Is this just what adulthood is and that being permanently tired is a part of it? AIBU to think I should be able to live a relatively busy life on 8 hours a day?

See your gp no it's not normal. Get some blood tests.you might need to over exaggerate a bit as some GPS don't take this sort of thing seriously.

I don’t think that’s normal, the 1-2 hour naps during the day and sleeping for 15 hours. Adulthood is not being permanently tired. Have you had your thyroid checked? Iron levels?

In no way is that normal, please get it checked out. It might be all kinds of things. A friend of mine who had similar issues with fatigue and needing excessive sleep discovered that she had sleep apnoea for example.

I felt like this is my mid 20s; it was because my ferritin (iron stores) were very low. Iron supplement helped.

See your GP and ask them to check your full blood count, ferritin level, folate (folic acid level), vitamin B12, vitamin D and thyroid. These are all blood tests.

It sounds dramatic but it’s been really upsetting me lately but I feel like I’m really lazy, I’m just constantly tired and feeling like I need to sleep but I’m a very proactive person and I want to be productive!

Last weekend I had a day off, slept a full nights sleep and accidentally fell asleep for a minimum of 2 hours twice during the day..

You’re all right it doesn’t sound normal when I say it like that but every time I talk to people about it they say I’m just busy and that’s why I’m tired or it turns into a competitive tiredness competition

phoned the doctor and got some pretty comprehensive blood tests take! B12, ferritin, bone density, a bunch of other things I didn’t managed to get a note of! Hopefully something positive comes out of it

Great, definitely think it was worth taking a look at - hope you get it sorted!

No, not in the slightest. See your GP for bloods, in the meantime, get some iron tablets (next day from amazon).
