Posting for traffic sorry,
Child has been vomiting through the night (ds 9) and the last lot had blood in it.

Not sure if this is enough for a&e or if that's an overreaction....

No flaming please just advice ❤️

i would phone 111

What kind of blood? Bright red blood after lots of vomiting means that he’s strained his throat and it’s bleeding. It’s not an emergency and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Black or dark brown grounds of blood are a concern.

Beneficialchampion2 · 21/01/2023 07:25

Is it fresh blood or dried blood? Blood in vomit can be indicative of a stomach ulcer, which you should take him to A and E for, but if he has had recurrent bouts of vomitting due to a bug for example some specks of blood are not abnormal as the oesophagus can become injured due to the repeated vomitting. Are certain it's blood and not something dark red in colour he's eaten?

111 will tell you to go to A&E. I'd get ready and go. It won't be that busy this early. The child might need an anti sickness at least. A walk in etc will send you on to A&E, so I wouldn't waste time going to one first.

theshadeofgreen · 21/01/2023 07:28

It's fresh blood, he's been throwing up for a few hours and the rest has been normal vomit colour so don't think it's from what he's eaten

Can I ask @theshadeofgreen why not just phone 111 for advice or drive to A&E?

theshadeofgreen · 21/01/2023 07:32

Because right now I'm sat with two children. One very small and one unwell
And a quite message on here from
Experienced parents Semele much fast ee than being on hold for 111. The last time I called took almost an hour to talk to someone.

I wouldn't really be too worried about fresh blood it's probably just an irritation in his throat from being sick. If it's dried blood or something that looks like coffee grounds then I would be concerned.

Poppyseed14 · 21/01/2023 20:07

How is he now OP? x

theshadeofgreen · 21/01/2023 21:19

He's ok, thank you @Poppyseed14.

Ended up with an out of hours GP who thinks it's an internal tear from being sick.

That's a relief! I'm sure you were worried sick x

Most likely a tear in the throat unless there's cups of it.
