Or have I been ripped off? Cleaner

I paid for a deep clean today.

They haven't cleaned any of the skirting boards which clearly needed doing. There's also still dirt on the bathroom floor that's not been mopped or hoovered. They also haven't cleaned any of the interior windows.

AIBU to say something?

I've been unwell/mostly bed bound for a little while. I needed a fresh start with the cleaning to get back on top of it.

its difficult because you’re not going to be objective but I have a feeling that if you’ve never had a cleaner before and splurged on a deep clean

a) if you’re honest… was your flat very messy / really really in need of a clean

b) it was a lot of money for you and you expected something truly amazing

roloololo · 20/01/2023 16:16

I didn't book for two hours, they said they'd stay as long as it took.

Op that is very odd

and tbh they could have completely taken the piss and stayed there 5 hours

you weren’t there. You’d left money. They no doubt saw how much you’d left and worked accordingly

Swimswam · 20/01/2023 16:19

2 hours isn’t a deep clean I’m afraid. That’s a standard cleaning time for a two bed house eg hoover floors, clean bathroom and kitchen.
It sounds like they were very vague. If it was an agency you could complain

MarmaladeCrumpets · 20/01/2023 16:20

Did you tidy before they came?

Gymmum82 · 20/01/2023 16:20

I gave up trying to find a decent cleaner. I’ve been through several. Laid out exactly what I expected in the time frame. All agreed with the cleaners. It was never done to my standard and often not done at all.
Sooner do it myself and know it’s been done properly.
sounds like a standard cleaner in my experience. Though I would go back to them and tell them you aren’t happy with the service and ask them to rectify it free of charge

roloololo · 20/01/2023 16:22

Yes, there was no mess or clutter at all. Nothing for them to tidy.

The house also smells of dirty water now too.

What does dirty water smell like? 🤔

And where was all this dirty water that is now so smelly from? You have a 2 bed flat. When I or my cleaner cleans my floor…. The water isn’t “dirty” and “smelly”!

You've obviously never worked in a kitchen or hospitality!!

It smells rank!

RedDiamond · 20/01/2023 16:29

@roloololo I need to know... How much did you pay for your "deep clean"?

LorW · 20/01/2023 16:37

We got a deep clean of our (large) kitchen and two bathrooms when we moved in (it was really bad) and she was there all day and we paid £340 and that was without windows being done- also didn’t include oven cleaning etc.

2bazookas · 20/01/2023 16:44

Two hours isn't nearly long enough to do a deep clean .

Cleaners are normally paid an hourly rate (around £15, here) and work for the number of hours you paid for.

Season0fTheWitch · 20/01/2023 17:01

As they said they'd take as long as they need, I'd call them up on the state of it. If they had stayed an extra hour they could've done windows, skirting and cleaned the floors. I wouldn't use them again

roloololo · 20/01/2023 17:30

I paid £160.

Dirty/old water has a very distinct smell. I can only assume that the mop/steam cleaner head itself was dirty. That causes a smell.

I live in a house, not a flat.

Yanbu.
Get back to them ask them for a list of what they have done.
Check the claimed work.
Go back to them again and tell them what you are un/happy with and say you'd like them to return or refund your money.

mrsbyers · 20/01/2023 17:37

That’s not acceptable for £160 - £40 an hour ! Get them back to finish the job

roses2 · 20/01/2023 17:40

You paid £160 for fours hours of cleaning (2x hours x 2 people)?? No that's not on then - call them back and complain.

Youve been well and truly fleeced

Do you really think cleaners get paid £40 an hour? What job do you do ?

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 20/01/2023 17:54

You have been mugged! For that amount of money your place should be spotless. Complain to them

Kangarude · 20/01/2023 18:42

That's a lot of money for what you received. I'd definitely complain to them

Nevermind31 · 20/01/2023 18:56

For £160 I’d expect 10 hour clean - or 5 hours with 2 people.
i would expect a deep clean for that, including skirting boards, windows, and every nook and cranny.
get them back and list what hasn’t been done.

Jellykat · 20/01/2023 19:01

Woah, £160? youve been ripped off? £15 an hour is the going rate here

This. You have been ripped off OP.

mrsbitaly · 20/01/2023 19:24

Wow unfortunately I am really sorry but you have definitely paid over the odds. I completely understand what you mean by the smell. Please do submit a complaint and advise them that a 2 hour clean isn't a deep clean and that you would like some money refunded. Have a look at what they charge hourly and base it on that. Don't let this put you off having a cleaner they usually do a fantastic job you've been unlucky

mathanxiety · 20/01/2023 20:28

You were ripped off.
