Which side should my draining board be?

Posting here for urgent advice as kitchen is currently being measured for worktops.

Got a sink that is 1/2 bowl in the left then a full bowl. Which side should the draining grooves be? Aesthetically/use of space-wise, I think they’d look better on the right but I think most sinks have them on the left (including in my old kitchen, which seemed to work)

Will it be weird having them on the right, especially as this means the layout will be half bowl (with tap over), full bowl, drainer?

We're both left handed so had ours on the left. If I was right handed I'd have it on the right.
We've since moved and I bet the new owners wonder why it's on the left 😂

In our new kitchen we have the dishwasher to the right, which is apparently the left handed way to do it according to the designer. It makes sense to me and it's how I had it last time.
We're not having grooves this time, I found them pretty useless

Personally after 28 years of a right sided draining board I can't wait to be in a position to change my kitchen and go back to left sided or even better a double sided draining option 🤔 I'm easily pleased

I’m right handed but what I’ve had in most of my homes is: dirty dishes stacked on the left, full sink, half sink and then draining board on the right. Maybe it’s because you read left to right (in most languages) but it feels fine to me. I have had a dishwasher in the last two homes though and I would agree that in this case you probably don’t need to worry much. Also, with a draining board cut into a worktop (granite or similar) surely you can still use the space for prep e.g. with a chopping board on it or a mixing bowl?

Have your draining board at the opposite side to the dishwasher. That way the dirty dishes waiting to be washed or waiting to go in the dishwasher go in the same place.

I used to design kitchens as part of my job. Firstly it depends on where your sockets are. The drainer needs to be 300mm from the socket. Secondly it depends on the layout of your kitchen, where do you want to worktop space for cooking/appliances?

@BiologicalWoman - never heard of that. We had kitchen all rewired last year and new kitchen and we have plugs right near sink.

Don't bother with grooves. They don't drain, collect gunk, and serve no purpose at all. We had a new kitchen installed last year, and when the guy came to template for the quartz, he agreed with me that grooves are a waste of time and money. Bearing in mind it costs more to have them cut, I appreciated his honesty!

And my drainer is to the right, over the half bowl and next to the dishwasher. I'm right handed.

Mine is on the left as it was the only way it would fit. I would prefer it on the right
