To ask about my exam results here? help!

Just need an answer before I reach out to colleagues please

So I sat an exam a couple of months ago - the results are in but they did not give me a pass/fail answer but a feedback %

The exam was 4 questions - each question worth 25 points

The results are the percentage that I achieved for each question

Am I right to think that if I add the 4 percentages for each question then divide by 4 - I then have my overall percentage and then my overall mark?

I’ve been searching for this answer everywhere on internet and study guides - can’t find it! It seems obvious to me but I’m so nervous. Am I missing something?

Send help!

PS here are my marks:
76
48
64
60

The 48 is making me panic!

Very strange way of giving your marks for a single exam. But yes I would add up and divide by four.

It entirely depends on the marking scheme. What you've proposed is reasonable if there is no other guidance.

Is there a percentage which is a pass mark?

SerenaTee · 20/01/2023 09:00

That’s how I would do it and make it 62% overall, have they indicated what overall % is considered a pass or is there a minimum % you have to get for each question?

chocolateisavegetable · 20/01/2023 09:02

It does depend on the mark scheme as it’s possible that the questions are weighted differently. Even if the weighting is the same, you’d need to know what the overall pass mark is.

Is there a percentage which is a pass mark?

50% Pass
60% Merit
75% Distinction

But it is not clear if that is for each question or overall results. I’m sure the tutor mentioned back in the summer at the beggining of the course but I don’t remember

Can’t find info on minimum for each question, only that each question is worth 25

25x4=100

I wish I had 100🤓

I’d guess you got a merit then, well done!

It generally it isn't as simple as it looks - standardised scores/raw marks are things which spring to mind results wise. Contact the awarding body for results clarification.

Thanks all - is a merit - got a proper result now -
