I can’t believe I have to ask this 🤦‍♀️

had a shopping delivery today, freezer absolutely thick with ice, how do I defrost it without my food going bad?

I’ve no cool blocks or ice bags or anything! I did have a frost free that broke and I had to get a cheaper one which was this. Just don’t wanna waste my shopping!

If it's as cold where you are as where I am, just stick it in a cool bag outside!!

I just unplug mine overnight, leave the food in and keep the door shut.

Next morning, remove the food and the ice will be easier to chip/scrape away.

I just run the freezer food down to a bare minimum then do it.
Just needs a bit of planning

It won't go bad, it just won't last as long. Don't refreeze anything that defrosts. Putting in a bag outside is a good idea as long as animals can't get to it. Meanwhile, to defrost quickly, get some warmth in the freezer. I usually put some boiling water in some baking trays and let the steam get to work.

I put a massive towel down and crack on with a hair drier! 🤣 Wrong? Probably. Quick? Definitely.

If you have a steam cleaner they are brilliant for defrosting freezers quickly.

I'd put it in the boot of the car so animals can't get at it. I often use the boot at this time of year if my fridge is full. I put the important stuff (meat etc) in the fridge and leave veg etc in the boot. Planning to get an extra fridge freezer for the garage but in the meantime I make use of the boot fridge.

II had similar situation in December. I put all the frozen food in large plastic box in garage. Then I switched off freezer and put trays and bowls of boiling water in it, changing every 10-15 minutes.
Managed to have it all defrosted and food back in in 2 hours
