To be worried about New York in December?

DH wants to go to NY in December for around 5 nights.
We used to go to America every year and have been to NY twice but since Covid I’m so anxious about travelling and I don’t know why.

Im thinking NY in December will be unbearably cold??

Risk of airports being snowed under

Other things I’m scared about that I can’t quite explain …

AIBU to be worried about going at this time of year? We’ve not been abroad since before Covid

I LOVED New York in December.

The Christmas displays, trees and lights were unbelievably pretty. It was cold but nothing that a scarf, gloves and thick coat couldn't cope with.

It snowed on our second to last day and we had an amazing time in Central Park in the snow, was magical.

NYC in December will be cold but you have less chance of getting snow than if you go in February. However, if you are anxious about travelling more widely, maybe it's not the best place in December. You will have the risk travel issues, if the city gets hit with really cold or wintery weather it can be a pain in the butt until it's cleared. It's also crowded and locals (and I speak as one!) Tend to be more bad tempered bc of that! These issues alone shouldn't stop you but, if you are already anxious, it maybe better to come when those potential problems are not around - may or September is my fav time of year to be in the city. It's warm enough to eat and sit outside and the city is generally happy as we're taking a big breath before the summer heat or winter cold. Holidays should be restful and it sounds like your concerns about the weather can be easily resolved by coming another time.

Yeah I think it’s general anxiety. I’ve become a bit of a hermit since Covid and NY (or USA in general) just seems so far away

Christ a few years ago I was driving through the Arizona desert in a jeep without a care in the world. Now I get scared about the thought of driving an hour to Manchester

I’m sure you’ll be fine. New York has deteriorated since Covid, more homelessness/crime etc. but just be alert and I’m sure you will be fine. Don’t stay or wander off the beaten track. New York will bounce back though, it always does.
