I'm 52 but feel like 76, menopause has robbed me of my vitality.

I'm well out the other side of menopause, not peri. I just feel like an old woman. I am SO tired. After getting up, showering and eating breakfast I'm ready for a lie-down to rest! I'm not suitable for HRT due to earlier diagnoses & a family history of cancers. I'm not sure HRT improves energy anyway, going by what my friends say who're on it. Dr says my blood profile is near perfect, so I'm not anaemic. I don't drink, don't smoke and take moderate exercise and I'm a sensible weight. Is this it for me now? Is there anyone else on here who's been in this position and managed to get that zing back again? I won't make it to proper old age at this rate as I'll be too knackered to get there!

But she is through peri and into menopause. Why would HRT help? This is her new natural stage. Or are you suggesting HRT until she dies?

From talking to friends, the biggest impact seems to be genetics. If your mum had an easy menopause, chances are you will too.

Mum’s was horrific. Years of awful hit flushes and terrible sleep. Mine, I got through without HRT. All in all, on the easier side of things. Though my Aunt (mum’s sister) had an easy time if it. I wonder if there have been any studies done.

Has your GP run a set of bloods recently? Hypothyroidism isn't uncommon in middle age and will make you super tired all day every day until it is treated.
Low iron, low B12 or low folate will, albeit to a lesser degree, make you feel like it too.

I have had no symptoms of menopause despite being through it. The secret is not to mess with your hormones in the first place. I've never taken the pill or anything hormonal. Eat vegan, run and drink loads of water. It has worked for me.

Smug just a bit??

It’s likely the GP hasn’t tested your B12 levels. Please don’t take tablets before getting b12 bloods checked as the results can mislead

Agree HRT helped with hot flashes etc but didn't give me extra energy. I'm in mid 50's and often absolutely exhausted, hate it

NoNewsIsGoodNews · 19/01/2023 18:45

HRT didn’t help me. The insomnia has been the worst. I ‘treat’ myself to one Nytol a week. That’s the only night I sleep and I get genuinely excited about it.

I'd start with Vitamin D supplements. Most of us have sub-optimal levels even though our blood tests are considered normal & fine.

I also use Menopause Ease from a US company called Piping Rock. The shipping costs are eye-watering so I wait for the BOGOF and stock up for 6 months worth. It's been life-changing for me, the horrible apathy that was misdiagnosed as depression has gone and my energy is back to pre-peri levels.

I’ve heard melatonin being mentioned a few times on menopause podcasts, gp can prescribe for this.
