For me I love jet2 or hyperholidaymarket where do you book your holiday do you prefer package deals or do you book it all separately

Jet2 for package holidays but I use dial a flight for anything else. Their service in the pandemic was second to none and I wouldn’t use anyone else.

TruffleShuffles · 17/01/2023 19:40

I always used to book everything separately if I was going short haul but I now actually find that more expensive. A few weeks ago I was looking to book a weekend away in Spain and the flights with jet2 were £320 yet flights and 3 nights in a hotel with jet2 were £340. I I obviously wasn’t going to find a hotel for 3 nights for less than £20 with anyone else.

I tend to use both jet2 and Tui, I do prefer jet2 as you get a better luggage allowance although I think there are better quality hotels with Tui. The quality of hotels with jet2 is definitely improving though.

gogohmm · 17/01/2023 19:50

Depends, short notice usually TUI. For driving holidays or long haul independent

AnyFucker · 17/01/2023 19:51

For city breaks I use Jet2

For summer holidays I book flights with Ryanair and villas either directly or with a villa company I trust that gave me no quibble refunds during covid

We use booking.com in the U.K. if we want to be able to cancel at short notice, or direct booking otherwise. Overseas has often been something like a Nielsen holiday, otherwise Expedia. Booking flights and accommodation separately doesn't get the whole lot protected if there's some sort of problem.

Ultravox · 17/01/2023 20:03

Book it all separately using Skyscanner & either Airbnb or Booking.com. We rent cars through HolidsyAutos or find public transport using Rome2Rio. I absolutely love doing it - it’s like a hobby and I’m a google maps junkie.

I do always check cancellation policies & have a yearly travel insurance policy so haven’t been screwed over yet.

VestaTilley · 17/01/2023 20:05

Not holidayed for years due to baby, Covid and buying a house, but when we did it was either separately or occasionally Expedia. Often Skyscanner for flights.

Eeiliethya · 17/01/2023 20:05

I usually find my hotel and destination, then browse through the travel sites to get the best price.

This year, we're off to Lefki Beach in Halkidiki via Jet2 package holiday. No faffing, half board and transfers all in.

The exact same holiday costed up with "on the beach" was double the cost 🤷🏼‍♀️. So I have a destination and hotel in mind rather than browsing the offerings.

I prefer package holidays but with the carriers, like Jet2 and TUI. In my experience they seem cheaper, might be to do with the fact they're operating their own airline and can offer cheaper flight rates.

Best ones IMO are Jet2 and TUI. I find EasyJet a bit less helpful but that might just be my regional airport.

I did EuroDisney for Xmas this year and booked hotel and flights separate. Last time I do it. Air France completely fucked me over, cancelled outbound direct flight 30 mins before departure then tried to reroute me through Lisbon (with a 5 year old when a direct early flight was available) the following day to arrive at tea time. I'd spent £2k+ on bastard dated Disney tickets alone so booked alternate flight with easyJet leaving early hours of the morning. No help from AF whatsoever as it was a Sunday evening. This cost me £900. THEN tried to charge me extra for using the return flight 😂. (Did you know it's in your ticket T&Cs that flights have to be used in sequential order?!?).

Still fighting for my money back and had to claim hotel costs via insurance. Absolute nightmare.

Moral of my long story: Air France are shit and I've had more success with package holidays.

Chibbers · 17/01/2023 20:09

Jet 2 for European package holidays. Going places and Kuoni for longer haul.
If I'm booking a city break then I usually book the flight and accommodation separately.
I've used Jet2 for years and I have to say they were brilliant when we had the pandemic and it messed our holiday up. I can't fault them so I'm a loyal customer.

If the flight is cancelled your insurance won’t pay for your hotel costs just because you didn’t show up.

Some will, some won’t. You would need to check the inclusions and exclusions of the individual policy.

exactly. Our December flights were cancelled and insurance paid for hotel and airport parking.

TizerorFizz · 17/01/2023 20:42

This is quoted by Martin Lewis on MSE. If hotel is part of the package, insurance should cover it. If separate, you might be faced with this.

Where do you book your holiday?
whiteroseredrose · 17/01/2023 21:07

EasyJet for flights and Booking.Com for accommodation. Then look at buses or trains.

whiteroseredrose · 17/01/2023 21:11

It usually works out cheaper that way because we don't do a week or fortnight in one place we do 3 or 4 nights in each place.

notacooldad · 17/01/2023 21:12

Skyscanner
Booking.com. usually have cancellation to right up to the day of travel or a day before.
My flights are normally so cheap that if I dont go for any reason its disappointing but that's about all.
I normally get dropped of at the airport or get the bus so alls good.

SomethingOriginal2 · 17/01/2023 21:13

Tui or virgin. Never had any issue

Ponoka7 · 17/01/2023 21:16

MissingMoominMamma · 17/01/2023 15:57

I book it all separately. I have travel insurance.

Are there insurance companies that cover seperate flights and accommodation?

I use Jet2 and TUI. When they over sell the flights, those who haven't got a package are off loaded first.

Hobbesmanc · 17/01/2023 21:18

If we're going to Greece or somewhere short haul and beachy I'd nearly always use Jet2 or TUI. Always cheaper than doing it yourself

Long haul though or European mini break, always independent. Such fun planning etc.

Oakbeam · 18/01/2023 02:16

Are there insurance companies that cover seperate flights and accommodation?

Of course there are. Not just flights, other forms of transport too.

Aprilx · 18/01/2023 02:28

I book everything separately. I was very glad I did when the pandemic started as I had a big holiday booked for my 50th. I got everything sorted / cancelled / refunded with half an hours effort from my armchair. Glad I did not have to negotiate with a travel agent as some people had a night mare getting money back.

MilkshakeMorningMix · 18/01/2023 02:49

Sky scanner or with the airlines

Booking.com, hotels.com, Agoda or direct with the accommodation, late rooms

Ferry companies

Occasionally Virgin, TUI

Holiday parks directly

Campsites book via club membership or independent sites or just turn up & ask if they have room

I have never booked an airb&b although I sometimes browse the site

Jet2 were fantastic with me and their other customers when the pandemic hit. They offered to either move my holiday, book a different holiday or give me a full refund.
Initially I moved it to the following year, but there were still severe travel restrictions in the country I wanted to visit, so they offered me a full refund, which hit my bank less than a week later.

Can I also add that Park Dean were also great, my youngest had booked a week's break with them on one of their parks. Then the pandemic hit, they gave her a full refund plus an extra 10% if she rebooked with them at a later date. Fantastic.
One of my friends however booked with hoseasons and she had a horrendous time trying to get a refund. Martin Lewis got involved with that fiasco if I remember correctly and got everyone refunded.

Bayleaf25 · 18/01/2023 06:56

Book it separately. I love the flexibility to put together exactly what we like (prefer self catering to hotels). Usually cheaper too.

Bayleaf25 · 18/01/2023 06:57

PS during the pandemic both EasyJet and Airbnb refunded money almost instantly.

LlynTegid · 18/01/2023 07:03

I book separately. Don't tend to go to the kind of resort or place most package holiday companies offer anyway, and with no school age children, am going outside school holidays.

Alarae · 18/01/2023 08:42

I compare the cost across providers (so airline package, resellers (I.e. on the beach) and separately. I'll then book whatever way is cheapest.

I've booked a holiday to Spain with my sister and our two children for May, which I booked separately. Flights with easyJet and hotel direct as they had a Black Friday offer on which gave both child places free, plus a free airport transfer.

It's rare I actually book a package holiday as it's always more expensive.
