To pay over £1k for a PT?

I’m trying to sign up to a local gym, but it is a private service with 1-1 personal trainers, complete with personalised diet plans.

They give you 3 60 minute sessions per week for 12 weeks (you can’t visit the gym outside of these sessions). There wouldn’t be anyone else visiting the gym during these sessions to ensure the equipment is free and that you get a complete/consistent coaching service. They are very popular online & seem to deliver results.

The downside is the price, would you pay £360 per month for this? YABU = No. The total cost is £1080 which works out to £30 per session. I’ve never been to a gym before so unsure if I need this level of support.

I work 9-5 and they run these sessions during that time. So I’d have to try and squeeze the sessions in during my lunch breaks @ work and not sure how I’d get changed in time as I work in-office in smart clothes (though the gym is next door to my office).

I might pay that, but not for sessions which don't run at a time that would be convenient for me.

I have a weekly 121 session, it's really motivating and absolutely enjoyable (especially when it's over). The motivation encouraged me to repeat what was covered a couple of times between sessions, because I do so my better if I've done three sessions a week rather than just one.

As someone who has joined many gyms over the years, I think this is a really good idea (assuming you can make it work with timing). Having dedicated time with an expert showing you how to lift weights without hurting yourself as well as getting the maximum out of each movement is totally different to following someone on you tube. I got a PT after years of faffing about at gyms with machines and light weights and really not having a clue what I was doing and therefore not seeing any actual progress, leading to me leaving the gym. Now my PT has taught me how to lift, which muscles I should be feeling (and how to tell the difference if I'm doing damage), when to push for reps vs going slow and lifting heavy and how to progress. I look on it as the same as learning to drive. My dad taking me out was ok but I needed a professional to stop me and give me proper instruction - along with the safety net of someone else having their foot on the break! This new approach has been life changing for me. I can move around my easily, I understand and listen to my body better as well as being able to lift more than I ever could before.

Absolute con
who on earth would pay for this

you pay more money for better service and convenience, you’ve got neither here
