Do you think it’s true the less you do the less you want to do?! Since working from home I seem to be general a bit more bleugh! I can motivate myself work wise most of the time but when it comes to doing things at weekends and the evenings I just can’t be bothered, I overthink it whereas pre covid I was always busy!

Yup. Sitting here on Mumsnet when I should be doing something else but can’t be arsed.

Abracadabra274 · 17/01/2023 14:03

So true

Nimbostratus100 · 17/01/2023 14:03

100% true

That’s the one 🙃

CointreauVersial · 17/01/2023 14:04

Yes, I absolutely agree. I'm far more productive at work when I've got a full to-do list. If it goes quiet I can't even be bothered to do the few things that need doing.

HRTQueen · 17/01/2023 14:04

For myself it’s true and I think it is for many people

‘want a job done ask a busy person’ saying is very true

BCxx · 17/01/2023 14:04

Yip! Working from home (at my own business) and I just stop so many times. I come on here, I check Facebook, I occasionally do something productive like filling the dishwasher or hoovering but the end of the day comes and I feel like I’ve got nothing done 🤦🏼‍♀️

Runningoncoffeealone · 17/01/2023 14:08

Yup. Had a lie in this morning, got up to sit on the sofa 😆 meekly tidied the front room up and sat back down.
However on the days I work, the whole house gets done, I'm on top of laundry, taking kids to the park, making meals from scratch once I get home etc 😅

girlfriend44 · 17/01/2023 14:11

its a problem more in the winter time not the summer time.

SleeplessInEngland · 17/01/2023 14:12

There's a reason the saying "if you need help ask a busy person" exists.

Lovemusic33 · 17/01/2023 14:13

Yes. I also find if I don’t do match all day I feel more tired.
I try and keep moving all day, saying that today I haven’t done much due to being sick at home due to awful driving conditions (ice). I do struggle more in winter as there are more excuses not to do things.

😁yep

JudgeRinderonTinder · 17/01/2023 14:38

Yep. Makes me feel like a failure. I’m a procrastinator of the highest degree 😂

Sotellmethisandnomore · 17/01/2023 14:39

That is the best description of my cleaning this morning! Meekly went over the bathroom. made me laugh.

C1239 · 17/01/2023 14:40

I find it especially of a weekend I feel I should be out and about being productive, being sociable and seeing people and a lot of the time I can’t be bothered!

OP posts:
shivawn · 17/01/2023 14:43

Yes I agree. During my maternity leave I was so lethargic and I used to push off simple little jobs for weeks because I felt like I had plenty time to do them.

3points · 17/01/2023 14:44

I've been so busy I had no time to do all I wanted so I don't think so.
I think it's about whether you are depressed or so not actually procrastinating, or having anxiety paralysis or very busy but actually burnt out.
I think it's more to do with your mental state. When you are feeling productive you are more productive, you were only able to do so much or so little because of your mental state not by virtue of actually being up and moving.

TulipCat · 17/01/2023 14:46

When I have less to do, I tend to overcomplicate things, put them off and spin out the task. When I'm busier I just get on with it. I imagine if you have several months or even years of that, you would become very fussy and stagnant.

Comedycook · 17/01/2023 14:46

Yes it's true. I'm living proof. I'm a sahm of secondary age DC yet have no time for anything

Yup. I'm having such a quiet patch and have 3 or 4 little jobs to do that would fill a few hours and yet...here I am.

OriginalUsername2 · 17/01/2023 14:49

Oh yeah, feeling that this week.

I read in Chinese medicine they teach you to move your body in the morning to activate your Chi (inner life force).

Yes, I'm like this.

I'm not lazy. I'm hibernating.

OoooohMatron · 17/01/2023 14:51

This is me. When I'm busy I'm productive in other areas too, my house is always clean, meals planned etc. During quieter periods I sit on the sofa doing jack shit when there are loads of things I could be doing. Busy people get things done.

Augustlou30 · 17/01/2023 14:53

I agree with this. I'd be rubbish working from home, I'd get the sack very quickly. Luckily I'm a nurse so always busy at work. I'm on a/l this week and I could easily sit in a heap when kids at school eating and watching box sets but I know I'll actually feel less rested and depressed. So I've a written down plan for each day to include a balance of rest and being productive 🙂 for me action precedes (sp?) Motivation. If I waited for motivation to kick in I'd never do anything 😂

Refreshmentsanyone · 17/01/2023 14:54

Yep. Lockdown proved that.
