Not the right place to post it but I need it for traffic - sorry!

I am due to do an exam tomorrow at university.

I have had two fits today and my hearing is muffled, I have had about three fits before a few weeks ago and have no diagnosis. Currently waiting for a call back from the GP.

My university wants evidence if I am going to apply for an extension, but AIBU in thinking a letter from the GP could take days? There's no way I can do them exam tomorrow.

Does anybody have any ideas please?

I am very stressed!!!

can you put in the appeal now, do the exam anyway, and see what happens?

DestinysGrandchild · 17/01/2023 13:31

When I've needed a sick note before, my doctor would send it over to my phone number and I could send it over to my boss (or whoever needed it). If they think you need one, they will give you one.

If you’re not medically fit you have no other option. Did anyone witness the seizures? Have you been to a&e? A discharge note should be enough

Get your GP to email over the note. Forward the note onto your uni with your exam/ course details explaining the situation.

In the meantime have call with your tutor or the course secretary or whoever so they are aware of your health issues and put in your request for a deferred exam.

letters do usually take some time to be typed up etc. a fit note is for work purposes after you’ve had more than 7 days off. They’re not usually issued immediately either but it shouldn’t matter after they’ve agreed to do it.

glasshole · 17/01/2023 13:36

It takes 30 working days to get a letter from my go so I would say a fit note would be the quickest. Although isn't it self certified for the first week?

BungleandGeorge · 17/01/2023 13:37

GPs are only contracted to do for notes for work purposes. This is outside their contract so will be a private service.
don’t you need to be checked out medically though? You may have proof from discharge note etc

pinknod · 17/01/2023 13:42

The GP has now called and now I'm going to a&e.

Thank you everyone.

My concern too was that a GP letter (I'm willing to pay) will take too long and I need to provide evidence today or tomorrow.

Good, important to get checked out and they should be able to provide a summary or discharge for you

BungleandGeorge · 17/01/2023 13:50

Btw your university is being unreasonable if they expect medical evidence on the day, especially from someone having seizures. Employers do not need evidence on the day, just for you to provide the note asap. Private GP letter takes ages because it will be dictated outside surgery times and then sent to secretary, and then checked
