I’m a nervous traveller and I will be taking the Eurostar to Paris on my own.

could someone please tell me set by step what happens?

also, I’ve got my tickets but they didn’t require my passport details, is that OK

one more thing, how much earlier do I need to arrive. It says between 45-90mins. Would I be fine with 1 hr?

sorry anxiety kicking in :(

You've either done this thread already or someone else has very recently please google for that one!

I use it fairly regularly, the St Pancras side was chaotic in November and I needed 1.5 hours!

littlelid · 16/01/2023 21:41

It's very lovely once you are on the train

ChooChoo0 · 16/01/2023 21:41

Nope I haven’t done any threads before about travelling with Eurostar.

@TwoBlondes could you please tell me the process once you arrived to st pancreas?

It's really easy and there's plenty of staff around to help. It's clearly signposted but St Pancras is massive. Once you get to the Eurostar queue you get to the barriers where you scan your ticket, once through you immediately go through passport control then you're on the platform and you get on the train and find your seat.

TwoBlondes · 16/01/2023 21:50

It's almost impossible to get it wrong. They have queues which are all roped off with an official at the beginning. You scan your ticket to get through the barrier then put your bag, phone etc in a plastic tray on the conveyor belt, walk through the detector arch thingy and collect your bag.

You then go through passport control twice.

There are screens telling you which platform to go to and carriage numbers are clearly marked.

The staff are incredibly helpful.

There's a lovely champagne bar overlooking the tracks if you need a relaxant first 🥂

It's my favourite way to travel and the station itself is beautiful.

So there is no need to check 8
in? They won’t be weird about liquids or stuff like at the airport.

I am travelling with a hand bag and a small roller hand luggage

Someone posted this exact thread the other day! If you check the Eurostar website (the logical place to look) they have videos of each stage in the process.

here is the virtual tour & explainer of the eurostar

You go through the gates with your ticket.
You go through security.
You wait till your train is called and you board it.

It is like travelling by train within the country but with security. No liquids issue because it isn’t a plane/airport.

MangshorJhol · 16/01/2023 22:04

Oh yes sorry after security there is passport control. Twice. THEN you wait for the train. No one checks your ticket before boarding if I remember correctly.
