Driving test fail

user07677 · 16/01/2023 15:49

Feeling really disappointed today, as I failed my first driving test and it has really knocked my confidence, it was something so silly and the instructor had said it was a shame as it was a really nice drive but I had taken a small side street a tiny bit to widely, I can't help beat myself up about it because it was something so little that definitely could have been avoided and is just super disappointing, I have booked another test and lucking have managed to get another test for in two weeks time but now I'm more nervous to do it again then going into it blindly so to speak. Any tips on confidence after failing would be great!

I passed 7th time 🤣I knew all the routes well and could drive. Also had an extreme anxiety problem. I'd drive round the test route overthinking what percentage of the test route I was through and what manoeuvre I'd get and work myself into hysteria and fail on ridiculous things (always a single major). I finally went and sat my test secretly having not told a soul. Got taken on a busy route I'd never driven before and had to actually concentrate on driving. Was back at the test centre in the blink of an eye having passed. Top tip is therefore relax, don't overthink and don't put too much pressure on yourself.

I passed 3rd time. 1st time I really couldn’t understand how I failed even when explained to me

2nd time my confidence was shot and I made loads of mistakes and failed

3rd time I had the same examiner as the first test. I thought fuck it and didn’t pay much attention. He had to tell me to stop my indicator after driving round a van in the middle of the road and hit the curb doing 3 point turn. He passed me. I've no idea how

Good luck on your test!

Just keep going. I failed twice but, after I’d got over the initial disappointment, I took it again and again. No shame in failing, just keep going.

Consider the first test as a practice run so you know what to expect on the next one - when you'll have the confidence and pass!

I passed second time too - good luck!

Don't worry about it op. Most people fail the first time.

My friend got marked "dangerous" and wasn't allowed to drive back to the test centre 😬. She actually passed not long after! Bit scary, but shows you can change in a short space of time

PuttingDownRoots · 17/01/2023 07:53

I gotva minor for speeding in my second test! (42 in a 40) but corrected quickly...

In my first test I almost crashed into a vehicle that was on the wrong side of the road.

I've never had a speeding ticket etc in 10.5 years of driving!

As others have said, most people fail at least once. Yes, it’s massively disappointing when it happens but try to not let the frustration get to you. Try not to build it up too much in your mind when you’re going for your second test.

I failed the first time. Before my first test everyone knew. I never told a soul about the second one and that really seemed to take some of the pressure off.

Hand on heart, learning to drive was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It took an awfully long time to ‘click’. When you’ve passed, it takes a few years of actual driving experience to become a good driver and for it all to become second nature.

Good luck! 🤞🏼

I failed first time, had one "minor" fault but then I "hesitated" on a mini roundabout and instant fail.

I still maintain what I did was safest option!

3 exit roundabout, car to my right was straddling 2 lanes and not indicating, so I didn't know if he was turning left into where I was coming from or going right across me.... I was already braking for the roundabout and it was downhill, so just I let off the brake slightly and allowed the car continue to roll at slow pace to give time to see where he was going. He turned left and I then accelerated away.

Examiner said hesitation but IMO had I proceeded as the examiner said (ie lift of the brake fully and accelerate sooner) and the car had turned right, I would've had to brake to not hit him!

2 weeks later I had the same examiner, drove utterly shit, got a load of minor faults and he still passed me.

What is that all about?

I would quote Nelson Mandela:-

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
