To think a manager shouldn’t actively demotivate their staff

If a manager is constantly demotivating the work force, would you say the manager was fit to do their job? The manager in question talks at staff rather than listening, harasses staff who are taking their meal break in the staff room to return to work early, badmouths staff to their colleagues accusing them of laziness etc and makes personal comments against them. She also says she wishes she worked at a different office. I find this all very draining and AIBU to think that a good manager doesn’t behave in this way?

She sounds like a huge bully tbh.

Helloumi · 14/01/2023 15:50

Yes she sounds like a huge bully, and exactly like the manager at my old job. The reason why I left and now have a new job with a fantastic manager who actually does their job properly.

YABU for posting such a silly question

you might as well ask ‘to think it’s not ok to shit on someone’s shoe’

Do you really think anyone would say this is unreasonable?

Againstmachine · 14/01/2023 16:15

I agree however I had a manager who complained how non of her staff knew how to do Their job, nope we did you changed our roles so we didn't and then complained.

Loveletters123 · 14/01/2023 16:21

Apologies @SandyLanez I will delete my silly thread

Well nobody is going to come on this thread and say 'aw she sounds like a good manager to me'. Of course YANBU.

Maybe have a think about why you’re so desperate for attention online you’ve posted something like this.

I hope you get help for whatever is troubling you

Oysterbabe · 14/01/2023 16:34

Obviously a terrible manager but probably not uncommon. We have one where I work.

Loveletters123 · 14/01/2023 17:07

@SandyLanez thanks for the lovely reply. I’m not desperate for attention at all, just had a rough day with said manager and thought I could get some support on Mumsnet. Obviously wrong. Please feel free to ignore now you’ve had your dig

Well, obviously.

It's going to depend on context though. Often on here we see threads accusing people (especially in the workplace) of bullying (there's a doozy still going I think where someone and her entire workplace seem to spend every working hour bitching about a colleague - the only thing the OP of that thread seems able to say concretely about the colleague is how efficient she is!)

Examples of talking "at" people? "Badmouthing" people? Making people cut short their break?

LlynTegid · 14/01/2023 17:41

@SandyLanez 16% seem to think so. Perhaps all relatives or friends (if there are any) of Priti Patel or another bully.

People have fat fingers and press the wrong option all the time on here

also some (like me) vote YABU because the OP is being ridiculous.

Move jobs if you don't find the job pleasant. Or hopefully this woman will move. I wouldn't believe this is allowed in 21st c England but apparently it happens. For sure, your thread isn't stupid, you need compassion, you have mine .
