Have dental fillings advanced much - having fillings replaced? Please help

Very stressed out as a lot going on terminally ill mum but on top of everything my upper molars have started hurting on one side when something cold aggravates them. I've had fillings in adjoining teeth there for over 20 years (really bad experience at the time, unbearable pain but they did settle) and my last two dentists have commented saying they will probably need changing soon.

Current dentist said when replacing fillings they could put in a liner of some sort that helps 'calm' the tooth, when I told her how awful they were first time round? Is this a new thing? I'm probably explaining that incorrectly.

I'm up to date on dental appointments and xrays and last xray a few months ago showed nothing on those teeth. Wondering how quickly could the two teeth have got really bad and turn to shit and if I'm likely to just lose those teeth? Or could replacing the fillings really work?

My resilience is very depleted at the moment and the idea of loads of horrific pain over next few months is really distressing me, I just don't have enough mental energy left to cope with it at all.

Bumping, as it is hurting again, now for no reason.

I think you'll have choices before any talk of removal.

Sounds like they might have been borderline for a while so perhaps there's some decay under the filling?
I've had one tooth filled and refilled a few times and now it has a crown.

Oh and sorry to hear about your mother.

have you tried something like sensodyne? a dental nurse told me you can rub a little of the paste on the difficult tooth and leave it on there if it's particularly bad.

Better to get them done sooner than let it get to root canal stage.. Female dentist if possible (sweeping generalisation here) as they seem more humane.
