For wanting a divorce because my husband sides with our child

I feel like I’ve snapped.
my son is so unruly at times talks to everyone like muck in the house. Which tbh he takes after his dad with it.
my husband always sides with him says stuff like “oh mums just in a mood” or “you know what she’s like” when ever I discipline with grounding or taking the infant away for a certain amount of time.
this has gone on for nearly 5 years now and I feel like I’ve hit a brick wall with trying to explain to him he’s just Showing DS he can do what he wants as discipline is clearly never followed through with. DS hit me earlier so I chimed up with a “right that’s it, nothing for a week” meaning phone and parks or friends etc and husband just laughed as if to almost say good one son and said just ignore her.
I honestly can’t take much more just lately and think is it me? Am I just being a difficult mum?

He hit you?! And your husband believed that was acceptable?

how old is he?

GeneticallyModifiedGrump · 13/01/2023 18:58

The only unreasonable thing you have done is let this carry on for 5 years, how do you expect your son to grow up respecting women?

WaddleAway · 13/01/2023 18:59

How old is your son?

tiredmama23 · 13/01/2023 19:01

Your husband has no respect for you and he is teaching your son the same.

SnackSizeRaisin · 13/01/2023 19:01

Yes I think that's valid grounds for divorce. The problem is that your son thinks it's acceptable because his father disrespects you. It must be a horrible way to live.

All the best op

Minniesmamma · 13/01/2023 19:04

He’s 9. I know he is and I hate the way he behaves when he’s like this.
there is a sweet side to him (child not husband) and when he’s so heavily influenced by his dad his behaviour is worse.

You need to get him away from his dad, who is an absolute disgrace as a parent.

itwasntmetho · 13/01/2023 19:18

I think you'd be doing yourself and your child a favour if you lift him.

mbosnz · 13/01/2023 19:21

Yep, grounds for divorce. You and DH are supposed to be acting as a team, to bring up your children to be the best person they can be, not a woman bashing thug.

toocold54 · 13/01/2023 19:23

Yes of course you need to leave.

I do think there is a bigger story here.

How often does your 9 year old hit you?

I’m surprised he has his own phone that needs to be taken away when he’s only 9.

Unless you think his friends are a bad influence then I’d be careful about stopping him from going to a park and getting fresh air and exercise.

OnlyFannys · 13/01/2023 19:25

Staying with him would be telling your son that treating you like shit is acceptable. You do right to leave. You cant change your husbands behaviour but you can change the view that it will be tolerated

Minniesmamma · 13/01/2023 20:01

This is the first time.
so his phone isn’t so much a proper phone more over an iPod touch he uses to play games with his friends and ask when they’re playing Roblox or equivalent together etc.
it is monitored and parental blocked as high as possible.

I’ve let my voice known on more than several occasions regarding parenting and how I feel is right compared to his either militant “I own you until your 18” or lack of parenting when it’s something I’m telling them to do.
they don’t know if they’re coming or going I don’t think.

I would not stay with someone who is so disrespectful to me in front of my child.
