Working from Home Annoyance

Anyone else getting fed up on an endless amount of calls or teams meetings where people having dogs barking, watching machines going or children screaming in the background?

I think WFH is great but it's not a substitute for childcare and you show be accessible during contracted hours as you are in the office without the noise level.

If I hear "can everyone please go on mute" or "there appears to be interruption on the call" one more time.

Not something I experience - or at least not since the first couple of weeks of people starting to make video calls at the beginning of lockdown and it was a novelty for lots of people.

If the childcare was more affordable relative to salary then most people wouldn't try to juggle both 🤷‍♀️ should think it's a nightmare trying to work with your kids around.

Dogs and doorbells ringing wouldn’t be an issue

Ongoing childcare would be. In fact in the two companies I have worked in since wfh became more common it would be seen as a disciplinary matter if you had not organised full time childcare during office hours (one off emergencies aside but they would require manager approval and if it wasn’t given then you would need to take a holiday or unpaid leave to cover)

Wfh does not equal free childcare in my experience and across my circle of friends and family that is the standard approach across pretty much all companies over different industries

As as for the stopping to say hello to the dog, it's suppose to a professional working environment.

And as we all know 'professional' is synonymous with 'joyless and impersonal'.

I don't see the small kids thing much any more, unless it's a late/weekend meeting or it's towards the end of the day and the other parent has just brought the kids home and failed to keep them away, or if a kid is home because they're unwell. As PPs have said, most workplaces are pretty strict.

However there's been a huge amount of illness around so a lot of kids home ill from school/childcare which may be why you've noticed it.
