Anyone had success in an automatic car?

I've failed 9 times in a manual for various reasons. I haven't had any driving lessons/tests in 8 years now, I got sick of failing and it became expensive.
I've found automatic lessons at the same price as manual. Know a couple of people who've said they found it much easier than manual. I've also got medication from the gp to keep my nerves under control too.
Being able to drive would halve my commute times and open up a lot of work opportunities for me so it'll be worth it.
Just interested to hear any experiences.

I passed in a manual second time but it took me two years of lessons to master it.
Once I passed, I switched straight to an automatic and have no desire to ever drive a manual again.
Driving is still not something I think I'll ever enjoy but an auto definitely makes things so much easier. I say go for it.

Do it. I'm so glad I switched to automatic and got my licence. Legally here I can drive manual after 3 years, but I wouldn't do that outside a life threatening emergency. I love being able to drive, it's had a really positive effect on my life, I have zero interest in learning to drive a manual.

Auto only takes away the added pressure of the gears and clutch. You do still need to master all the other skills of driving to pass the test. There is so much more to driving than just the gears and clutch but it does make it that little bit less stressful.

I learned to drive manual at 17 but was a very nervous driver and almost wrote off learning altogether when one instructor really knocked my confidence. Then I tried automatic. Have been happily and confidently driving automatic for 8 years now, after starting lessons and passing my test first time in a very short space of time. DH can drive both but since we’ve only had automatic cars he has said he’d never buy a manual car again. It is less work. Go for it!

I passed my test in an automatic over 30 years ago and never regretted it. It won't be long before you cant buy a new manual car in the uk anyway so you may as well go for automatic

My DH, who had dodgy knees, switched to an automatic about 4 years ago and raves about it.
My best friend ended up with an automatic, purely by chance, when she last swapped cars, and has zero plans to ever go back to manual.

The people who have them, rave about them.

Another big plus of autos IMO is manoeuvring is so much easier when you don’t have to worry about stalling the engine.

I did an auto only test, at the time I was a student at the other end of the country and not in one place long enough to do a long stretch of lessons for a test, without having big gaps in my lessons, so decided to do a crash course. I figured there was less to learn and think about in an auto so opted for that. I did 3-4 hours a day Monday to Thursday and passed my test on the Friday, in East London, which is a very aggressive place to learn! I haven't had any issue with having an auto only licence and when you're buying older second hand cars with an auto you know it hasn't been ragged about by a boy racer. I've had some really nice ex mobility cars actually which seem to be more likely automatic.
Go for it.

"you can’t make noise after 22.00"

How is that a bad thing?

I had a couple of lessons in a manual years ago and frankly, it was too much like hard work. Then I inherited my DM’s automatic fiesta last year and there didn’t seem to much point having manual lessons. Learned in an automatic and passed 1st time with one minor. Learning in an automatic means you don’t have to spend so much time learning how to actually handle the car and can get on to the proper driving more quickly.
