Or if I’m going mad and this isn’t even a thing?

Are you someone who feels perpetually not 100%? Every day you’re a bit more tired than you should be, a bit more achy or lightheaded or maybe even always feel as if you’re about to come down with something but never do?

This is presuming no underlying health issues or massive obvious reasons like you only sleep 4 hours a night. Just an average person with no real explanation as to why they always feel a bit meh? Are someone people just made that way?

I look at those people who are super fit and always feel great and I feel very envious 😂

I would have said yes a year ago, or 3 years ago, or even 5 years ago....and I did go to doctors from time to time and they were dismissive

Then an optician spotted I had signs of a rare neurological condition ...

So my advice is don't ignore it. I would have better prospects of remission if it had been diagnosed sooner.

Oh flip! I hadn’t even thought really it could precursor a diagnosis. I hope you feel well now x

Yes. I think in my case it’s because I eat too much sugar, don’t get enough exercise, feel stressed and sit scrunched by a screen all day at work.
If I led a healthier lifestyle no doubt I’d feel better. Suspect that’s what any doctor I go see would tell me anyway.

SweetSakura · 12/01/2023 19:24

Yes that's what the doctors kept telling me. They ignored the fact I was saying I was eating healthily. They knew best...

MissingMoominMamma · 12/01/2023 19:24

I constantly feel dizzy and woolly headed. I’m also tired most of the time, despite sleeping well. I’ve been like this since I had Covid.

Do you mind me asking what your condition is, @SweetSakura ?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/01/2023 19:30

I did, and then I did a round of Whole30 (to try to lose some weight) and it was an epiphany that actually I really don’t need to feel ‘meh’ all the time. I do a few rounds a year now to give me a boost. It’s very strict so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. After the 30 days, honestly you feel amazing- better sleep and just really clean and energised.

i would do it full time but I couldn’t live without any alcohol or chocolate ever, so I have to do it in bursts!

I have severe insomnia but even when I do manage to sleep I've never woken up feeling anything other than exhausted and miserable/ragey

sgtmajormum · 12/01/2023 19:38

I felt very tired and it gradually got worse. I was sleeping 9 hrs a night, still waking up tired and would need an afternoon nap. It got so bad I literally couldn't keep my eyes open in the afternoon. Finally I fell asleep at the dining room table while the kids were eating their tea! I was also struggling to regulate my temperature (either v hot or v cold especially my feet)
Went to doctors and turned out my thyroid had stopped working. I'm now taking daily thyroid meds and feel much better

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 12/01/2023 19:40

I feel permanently slightly hungover. It's adrenal fatigue.

Do you mind me asking what your condition is, @SweetSakura ?

It's called myasthenia gravis. It's fairly rare, but has distinct symptoms (including visible eyelid droop) that observant open minded doctor could have spotted

However , there are lots of other potential causes too, my main point is don't just accept it as your normal. And don't let doctors dimiss you just because your blood tests are normal (mine are, because I have seronegative myasthenia gravis -diagnosed using a single fibre EMG test)

Other possibilities include but not limited to -thyroid, coeliac, sjogrens...

"Just an average person with no real explanation as to why they always feel a bit meh?"

There will be an explanation, you just haven't found it yet.

It could be a physical thing - an undiagnosed illness, dietary deficiency, menopause, sleep apnoea or disturbed sleep, long covid, etc.

It could be a lifestyle thing - lack of sleep hours, poor diet, lack of exercise, too much screen time, work stress, etc.

It could be a mental health thing - relationship issues, screen addiction, depression, lack of friends, not enough time in nature, etc.

You don't have to live like this. Keep looking and trying various changes.

However, you may find the cause(s) is something you are not willing or (yet) able to change, e.g. if is is caused by the wrong job, the wrong husband, wrong parents, or not wanting to be a mum of child(ren) of the age/stage they are at. Then you have to weigh up your options.
