She's got recurrent chest infections over the last few years and they've been doing some checks and they suspect COPD. Well she had a bad back and was feeling awful and tbh was worried and took her to A+E a few days ago chest xray, blood work ECG done again suspected COPD, chest infection her xray was meant to be better than the one she had a week before after having the respiratory nurse appointment, but her bloods were worse.

Well last night for about 3hrs in bed she was crying about the unrelenting pain and not being able to move etc and still very breathy when walking. I know A+E is for vital stuff and I'm not sure this counts but on the other hand I hope people can see how difficult it is seeing her in such pain.

You could write down what's happened and hand it to the nurse if mum won't talk

It was the nurse that told me to be quiet and that she wanted to hear it from mum last time

@Mouldyfoodhelp - to be fair to the nurse part of assessing a patient is to hear them describe things in their own words. We are taught to make sure we get it from them (providing capacity and capability is there of course).
This sounds like GP job.

My tactic for this with my mum was to ask questions…

Nurse/Dr: Are you in any pain?
Mum: Oh a little bit not too bad, just a twinge really
Me: Does it hurt as much as it did this morning? You told me it was was really bad?
Nurse/Dr: How long has it been going on?
Mum: Oh just a few days really
Me: Really, I thought you told me it had been going on for over a week.

Usually I could get the full story out without talking for her. If there was something that I wanted the Dr to know specifically I would ask my mum about it.

are you in england?
if so you should have a community rapid response team.
advanced nurse practitioners with access to a care of the elderly consultant.
they can assess your mum at home with 2 hours and take things from there. very underused but fantastic service

Pneumonia can be painful, can she take anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen? She can add paracetamol too, while you’re waiting for an answer.

I think if she’s being investigated for COPD it’s not advisable to take ibuprofen
