To think work should give me examples?

I had a day in November in the office that my mental health was in the gutter, I basically was having suicidal thoughts for weeks and work is a large part of this.

That day I had one meeting with my team where I didn’t engage, I spoke when I was spoken to but that aside was very disengaged. I was told later that it was very unprofessional.

Work have now put me on a plan for behaviour, but can’t provide any further examples of where my behaviour was unprofessional despite them saying there is more. I genuinely can’t think of any, plus I was never given a warning prior even informally.

Your MH can't have been "in the gutter" for one day if you want to claim your MH as ever being an issue, when you also declare that your work 'behaviour' has been unquestionable on every other day.

MH issues might cloud your judgement of how you are doing at work, or you might not be working very well, badly on some days, and trying to find another way to explain it.

I didn’t say it was for one day. I just happened to be in the office when I couldn’t hide how low I’d got. Most of the time I’m at home on my own.

I’ve asked for examples to be provided for the fact that I can’t think of any others myself. It’s unfair to say you’re unprofessional in a job but then not give examples. If examples could be provided I’d take them onboard and reflect.

I don't think you're being unreasonable as any sort of plan would also have to include those examples as something to work on.

Is there any reason why it has taken them so long to then begin this process (if that awful day was in November and it's January now - unless I've misunderstood) 2 months is too long to leave something imo as someone that has to carry out performance management.
I'd think about asking them about that gap in time, or explain that really you need specifics to what the issues are. If, like you said, the work place has damaged your mh so much maybe it has been a bit more plain for others to see than you think?

I’d also think it’d be reasonable for them to give you examples however you haven’t said whether your workplace is aware of your mental health issues you’ve been having and what their thoughts are in terms of support they could offer? Most workplaces have some form of occupational health department who you usually have to get referred to if you are having any issues so that support or issues can be identified and workload can be adjusted to accommodate any adjustments etc (I know as someone who also has had MH difficulties who got referred to OH and they were thankfully very helpful), but then again my workplace was very supportive. However it would be in your best interest to seek out this type of support. Best of luck OP

Maybe the way you've been presenting even before the office day was of concern to them. Have you been working all of your hours? Been consistent in your work? Off with anyone? Not meeting deadlines? But yes they should be giving you examples for sure.
