To think this isn’t normal (toddler)

My 2.5 year old son with long hair often has a clammy forehead (and sweaty hands too). Especially before bed, when falling asleep then asleep he is sweaty, clammy.
When he’s running around and active that’s okay surely but when he’s not doing anything and just sat on sofa having his milk before bed?
AIBU and over worried? Is this normal? Thanks

Shamelessly bumping myself sorry 😬

Too many layers on? Snuggled into you drinking milk?

ScramblePud · 10/01/2023 22:06

How warm is the house? What’s he wearing? Is he snuggled into blankets etc?

Fireweeds · 10/01/2023 22:06

I think one of mine did this. As long as they were well I figured it was to do with the not fully regulating their temperature yet.

MaryShelley1818 · 10/01/2023 22:08

My little boy (short haired!) Has always been like that....within a few minutes of falling asleep his head is soaked in sweat. He's always bright red and sweaty at parties too running around.

Just a sweaty child and normal for lots of toddlers. He's just turned 5 and been like this since a young toddler.

Garman · 10/01/2023 22:09

Yeah my middle kid was like that.

MaryShelley1818 · 10/01/2023 22:11

Just to add it's absolutely nothing wrong with temperature of our house/layers/bedding etc

MaverickGooseGoose · 10/01/2023 22:11

You've posted twice, do you have anxiety? What are you worried about exactly?

sahm9 · 10/01/2023 22:13

Thanks everyone.
He was in vest and soft feeling pjs (not cotton ones).
He seems to have phases of being very sweaty then other times nothing at all.
I just noticed as dad was carrying him upstairs he looked wet on his face and he was clammy to touch, big red cheeks but no temp. Normal in himself.

Haha yes I have 🙈 in 2 different forums.
To cut a long story short- horrific pregnancy, birth and very poorly baby.
Shorty after had a case of childhood cancer within the family friend group which knocked everyone. Every ‘symptom’ I google leads back to a childhood cancer. Very exhausting, I’m in therapy and seeing improvements. Find it massively helpful to get other parents experiences.

I also have a heart condition which he’s been tested for but I worry his heart is overworking which is causing the sweating when he doesn’t seem to be doing anything

Oh wait like in fleecey pjs? Synthetic ones? One of mine gets tremendously sweaty in those. Generally I only have them in cotton to sleep.

sahm9 · 10/01/2023 22:20

Haha yes but a little thinner than the really thick synthetic ones. Probably down to that tonight but I will keep an eye on the sweating this week during the day/night

My DD always has sweaty head when she's been sleeping. My nephews were the same, little sweaty curls so I knew it was normal.

I understand how you feel OP, I went through a very difficult time with my DD when she was only 3 months old, a very frightening health scare. I managed to get through it at the time, god knows how! But I did, but I almost think it's left me with a kind of PTSD, I'm very anxious about her health all the time now.

mynameiscalypso · 10/01/2023 22:23

My 3 year old is a really sweaty thing. Hands and hand are damp a lot of the time. I go in to check when he's been asleep for an hour or so and his pillow is damp. Me and his dad tend towards being sweaty and I think he's just still too young to regulate well.

sahm9 · 10/01/2023 22:24

Thank you for being so understanding! It’s so hard isn’t it. Literally EVERYTHING I link to a childhood cancer that in the past I researched to every last detail as I believed at the time if I knew every warning sign I could protect him to the best of my ability 😢

I would put him in cotton pjs though OP, I put a cotton vest on in winter too as my 2yr old likes to kick off the duvet. Cotton is more breathable.

feellikemyselfagain · 10/01/2023 22:26

My nearly two year old is quite clammy too! Clammy hands and feet. His dad is the same! Hope this is reassuring to hear OP

MilkyYay · 10/01/2023 22:30

Lots of kids get quite sweaty, especially when they sleep and when in synthetic clothes.

MilkyYay · 10/01/2023 22:31

Also if he has quite long hair and its making his head & neck sweaty, maybe cut it?

sahm9 · 10/01/2023 22:37

His haircut got cancelled before Christmas and rescheduled for this weekend. His hair isn’t on his neck but he does have a fringe which is overdue a trim 😬

One of my children used to become really hot and sweaty when they had slept for about an hour. I used to go up and fold the duvet away from them and then replace it when I went to bed. It only happened in the first hour of sleep, temperature was normal for the rest of the night. They grew out it by about 4

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 10/01/2023 22:43

My DS (now 9) often overheats around bedtime and in the first hour or two he's asleep. Has done since he was a young toddler. He was prone to croup when younger but no other health issues at all!
